But now George Soros got the surprise of a lifetime when this key Democrat just turned on him.
George Soros donated $107,000 to a New Mexico Super PAC to support Democrat Raul Torrez in his 2016 race for Bernalillo County district attorney.
This donation was part of Soros’ scheme to elect left-wing ideologues to local prosecutors’ offices to push the Left’s radical agenda using the justice system.
Torrez is now the Attorney General of New Mexico.
And Torrez stunned the Left by becoming the latest Democrat to speak out against New Mexico Governor Lujan Grisham’s tyrannical order to suspend the Second Amendment in the city of Albuquerque citing a dubious “public health emergency.”
In a letter to Governor Grisham, Attorney General Torrez announced he would not defend Grisham’s illegal order to suspend the Second Amendment in court.
This leaves Grisham without an attorney in the inevitable legal challenges to her attempt to strip every law-abiding resident of Albuquerque of their Second Amendment rights.
“Though I recognize my statutory obligation as New Mexico’s chief legal officer to defend state officials when they are sued in their official capacity, my duty to uphold and defend constitutional rights of every citizen takes precedence,” Torrez wrote. “Simply put, I do not believe that the Emergency Order will have any meaningful impact on public safety but, more importantly, I do not believe it passes constitutional muster.”
Torrez also called out Grisham for falsely claiming gun violence is a public health emergency.
“Moreover, even if the problem is properly categorized as a ‘public health emergency,’ the data do not support the conclusion that gun violence in our community is attributable to otherwise law-abiding citizens exercising their constitutional right to carry firearms for protection outside the home,” Torrez added.
“I urge you to reconsider this course of action and redouble your efforts to bring about lasting change through the democratic process,” Torrez concluded. “I can and will commit the resources of the Attorney General’s Office to such an endeavor and stand ready to assist you in bundling a safer community without sacrificing the constitutional rights which we have sworn an oath to preserve, protect and defend.”

Torrez joins other gun-grabbers like David Hogg and Congressman Ted Lieu in opposing Grisham suspending the Second Amendment.
They aren’t opposing this gun grab out of some deep love of the Constitution or respect for the Second Amendment.
What’s really going on is the gun-grabbers fear Grisham set them up for a massive defeat at the Supreme Court in a case that will produce a ruling that further expands the scope of the Second Amendment and limits the ability of Democrats to pass new gun control in the future.
