Keanu Reeves has been a Hollywood star for more than three decades.

Now he wants to team up with a former co-star for one last ride.

And Keanu Reeves revealed the surprising sequel that he wants to bring to the big screen.

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock open to Speed 3

The 1994 film Speed was one of the most popular action movies of the decade and picked up two Academy Awards for Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Sound.

Keanu Reeves starred as Los Angeles SWAT officer Jack Traven who works with Annie Porter – played by actress Sandra Bullock –to keep a bus from going under 50 miles per hour or else a bomb will go off.

The action thriller still resonates with audiences today.

Reeves and Bullock appeared on the 50 MPH podcast, which is dedicated to the movie Speed.

The idea of doing a Speed 3 came up and the actors were game to the possibility.

“I mean, you know,” Reeves said. “We’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.”

Bullock talked about the pair’s undeniable onscreen chemistry.

“There’s no formula. It just is,” Bullock said. “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?”

“It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done,” Reeves told her. “I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”

After Speed, the duo appeared together in the 2006 romance fantasy The Lake House.

Bullock highlighted that she and Reeves made very little eye contact in Speed.

“We didn’t really look at each other in this movie except for maybe three times, three or four times where there was just – because we were constantly battling the elements,” Bullock explained. “And I think that’s what made it so electric, too, is that, watching it, I guess you want them to connect. So, that was really clever, a really clever setup to sort of, you know, keep people apart. Foreplay, I guess.”

Speed 2 was a critical and financial failure

Speed 2: Cruise Control was released in 1997 and became one of the biggest box office bombs of the year.

Reeves was replaced by actor Jason Patric and the setting shifted to a cruise ship.

Bullock told TooFab in a 2022 interview that returning for the movie was a mistake.

“I’m still embarrassed I was in it,” Bullock said. “That’s one I wished I hadn’t done and no fans came around that I know of, except for you.”

Reeves was offered a part in Speed 2 but turned it down after reading the script.

“At the time, I didn’t respond to the script. I really wanted to work with Sandra Bullock, I loved playing Jack Traven, and I loved Speed, but an ocean liner? I had nothing against the artists involved, but at that time I had the feeling it just wasn’t right,” Reeves told Graham Norton in 2021.

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are on board with giving the Speed the sequel it deserves.
