Megan Markle and Prince Harry found themselves in the middle of a new controversy.
The two Royals ended up with egg on their faces.
And Megyn Kelly destroyed Megan Markle with just one word.
CNN’s John Berman reported that a spokesman claimed that Prince Harry and Markle “were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” through the streets of Manhattan.
Berman added that the spokesman also claimed their “relentless pursuit lasting over two hours,” which “resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD officers.”
This evoked memories of Harry’s mother Princess Dianna dying in a car crash in 1997 as the paparazzi chased her vehicle through a Paris tunnel.
To many this sounded like another Jussie Smollett-level hoax from two attention-seeking celebrities.
Megyn Kelly immediately expressed skepticism of this claim.
“Near-catastrophic. What does that mean? I mean, near-catastrophic is what we all have. Every time we look down to change the radio while we’re driving our cars or engage in the stupidity of checking a text or our phones while we’re driving, that’s near-catastrophic. It is. Anything could happen with anybody on the road around your car,” Kelly declared.
Kelly explained that due to the traffic, number of stop signs and red lights, as well as the number of pedestrians on Manhattan streets, a high-speed chase was impossible.
Kelly added that if the two did not like the freedom of the press in America they were free to leave the country.
“Well, sorry, you two. But you’re in America now and in America, the press has the right to photograph you when you are in a public place or on the streets or leaving a place like the Ziegfeld Theater. That’s the way it works here. And it’s not pleasant. I’ve been followed as well, but it’s part of life in this country where we still have freedom of the press. You don’t like it? Go back home for the love of God, please go back home. Harry, take your wife with you. I don’t know how we got saddled with you to begin with,” Kelly exclaimed.
The New York City Police Department later proved Kelly correct, debunking Markle and Harry’s claim about a near fatal car chase and that multiple police officers suffered injuries in the pursuit.
“On [Tuesday] evening, May 16, the NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” a NYPD spokesman explained. “There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”
