Now, sources close to a former California ally of Harris are confirming a 2024 Presidential bid by an expected top contender from the Democrat nomination.
California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom is “undeniably, unequivocally” preparing to run for President according to sources close to him.
“After this Midterm election is over, he absolutely is going to announce that he is running for the Presidency once Biden announces that he is not running,” a top California Democrat fundraiser close to Newsom told the Wrap.
“No ifs, ands, or buts,” the fundraiser continued. “He will run if Biden does not.”
Newsom is allegedly trying to take a more “moderate” stance ahead of a Presidential run.
Recently, the California Governor vetoed a bill for state funded illegal drug injection sites that was supported overwhelmingly by his own party.
“Just look at some of the bills he started vetoing,” the fundraiser said. “He has done everything to play toward the middle. But he’s not at all scared to get up and just go after opponents on important issues. He can be a real attack dog.”
Newsom is also trying to build his national profile with Democrats by launching attacks on prominent Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Facing a safe reelection race for Governor, Newsom raised eyebrows by running attack ads against DeSantis on Fox News in Florida using campaign funds in a move that drew national attention.
He’s also run newspaper ads and billboards in Republican-led states attacking them over gun rights and ending abortion-on-demand.
Newsom insiders coming forward about his plans gives credence to the rumors that Democrats are going to cast aside Joe Biden after the Midterms.
And other anonymous allies of Newsom are already ripping Kamala Harris ahead of a potential Democrat Primary.
California Democrats are souring on Harris’s political future because they don’t think she could beat a strong GOP Presidential candidate in 2024.
“There’s going to be a ton of people coming out against Kamala if Biden doesn’t run,” a source told the Wrap.
Kamala Harris will have to win a bruising primary if she ever hopes to achieve her dream of becoming President.
