Biden has been adamant that he was going to seek a second term as President but he added to the questions about his political future during an interview with 60 Minutes.
He told host Scott Pelley that it “remains to be seen” if he’ll run again in 2024 claiming there’s many factors at play for the decision.
Now, Biden’s key allies in the Democrat Party are refusing to back a second Presidential bid from the 79-year-old President.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to endorse another Biden Presidential bid when asked about the President’s 60 Minutes interview.
“President Joe Biden had an interview on 60 Minutes where he didn’t commit to running for re-election, and I’m wondering if you think he should run in 2024, or do you think the party should pick someone else or- who might be better?” a reporter asked Pelosi.
“President Biden is the President of the United States. He did a great service to our country,” Pelosi said. “He defeated Donald Trump, let’s not forget that.”
Pelosi added, “If you care about, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the education of our children, jobs for our – our – their families, pensions for their seniors, any subject you can name – I’m not going into politics about whether the president should – should run or not.”
Pelosi has been a fixture in Congress for decades and is one the leading voices of the Democrat Party’s establishment.
If she’s refusing to come out and back Biden, that’s a major red flag the party could be ready to pull the plug on his failed Presidency.
Pelosi joins a growing number of prominent elected Democrats who are non-committal about a second Biden term.
On CNN when asked about backing Biden for 2024, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said, “Should he run again, I think that I – you know, I think it’s – it’s, we’ll take a look at it.”
The Democrat base and now the Party’s leadership appears ready to call it quits on Joe Biden after two disastrous years.
