Gun-grabbers strong-armed the CDC into dropping one study

Democrats are always looking for ways to roll back gun rights.

And their methods are not always direct.

Now gun-grabbers strong-armed the CDC into dropping one study.

Gun control activists are determined to take guns away from law-abiding citizens.

One of the arguments that gun-grabbers use, is that gun owners are less simply by possessing a firearm.

The basis for the study is that roughly two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides, which undercuts the public safety argument of the Left.

Gun control activists also don’t want people to know the truth about defensive gun uses (DGU), which is why they fought to get a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) study deep-sixed.

A study from criminologist Gary Kleck estimated that there are roughly 60,000 to 2.5 million DGU per year, which further torpedoes Democrats’ narrative.

That’s why gun-grabber Mark Bryant of the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) fought to keep Kleck’s study out of a CDC reference guide.

Bryant wrote in emails to CDC officials, “[T]hat 2.5 Million number needs to be killed, buried, dug up, killed again and buried again . . . It is highly misleading, is used out of context and I honestly believe it has zero value – even as an outlier point in honest DGU discussions.”

This is another example of why people have lost faith in legacy institutions.

Activists can just lobby organizations like the CDC to do their bidding.

Bryant added, “And while that very small study by Gary Kleck has been debunked repeatedly by everyone from all sides of this issue [even Kleck] it still remains canon by gun rights folks and their supporting politicians and is used as a blunt instrument against gun safety regulations every time there is a state or federal level hearing . . . Put simply, in the time that study has been published as ‘a CDC Study’ gun violence prevention policy has ground to a halt, in no small part because of the misinformation that small study provided.”

But Kleck, Professor Emeritus at Florida State University, did not back down from his research as Bryant suggested.

Kleck called the GVA’s strong-arming of the CDC “blatant censorship” and added that the “CDC is just aligning itself with the gun-control advocacy groups . . . It’s just saying: ‘we are their tool, and we will do their bidding.’ And that’s not what a government agency should do.”

Gun control activists are wrong on the facts, so they’re attacking to cook the books in their favor.
