59-year-old Courtney Love made her rise to fame during the 1990s as a rocker and had a career that spanned four decades.
And Love just launched a new radio show about women in the music industry.
But Taylor Swift fans declared war on Courtney Love for telling one brutal truth about the mega pop star.
Courtney Love is known for her role as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the alternative rock band Hole.
She was once married to deceased Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain.
Love’s album Celebrity Skin was nominated for three Grammy Awards in 1998.
She also ventured outside the music industry and earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for her performance as Althea Leasure in The People vs. Larry Flynt in 1996.
Earlier this month, Love, who moved to London in 2019, launched an eight-part series on BBC Radio called Courtney Love’s Women.
Love promoted her new radio show in a recent interview with The Standard.
“It’s great that there are so many successful women in the music industry,” Love said, before adding that “lots of them are becoming a cliché.”
“Now, every successful woman is cloned, so there is just too much music,” she ranted. “They’re all the same,” she continued. “If you play something on Spotify, you get bombarded with a lot of stuff that’s exactly the same.”
But she also set off a firestorm by offering up a controversial opinion on some of her fellow music stars like Madonna, Beyoncé, and singer Lana Del Rey.
“I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me,” Love said of Madonna. “I loved ‘Desperately Seeking Susan,’ but for the city of New York as much as her.”
As for Beyoncé, Love said that “I like the idea of Beyoncé doing a country record because it’s about black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed, not that I like it much.”
“As a concept, I love it,” she continued, before adding that “I just don’t like her music.”
“I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off,” Love said of Del Rey.
“Up until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads,’ I thought she was great,” she continued. “When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.”
But it was her criticism of Taylor Swift that landed her in hot water with the millions of fans of the biggest pop star in the world.
“Taylor is not important,” Love said in the interview. “She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”
Taylor Swift’s massive fan base was not happy about Love’s comments.
Swift fans accused her of “minimizing women in music.”
According to Swift’s fans, Love is jealous of the mega pop star and has a history of attacking “more talented women.”
“I just think she has a way of minimizing and belittling women in music,” one social media user wrote. “I find her to be an awful person.”
Others accused Love of making a desperate attempt at “trying to stay relevant.”
Apparently, Love hasn’t always felt this way about Swift.
In 2016, she praised Swift in a post on social media as an “astonishing beauty, hands down!”
And in 2021, she wished Swift a belated Happy Birthday on social media.
But Love has a new radio series out in London.
And she knows controversy is exactly how to generate buzz and get ears listening to each episode.
