Jill Biden doubles down on supporting her husband’s campaign
Panicked Democrats are texting each other and reporters, trying to figure out how to nudge Joe Biden out of the race.
But since more than 90 percent of the delegates at the national convention belong to Biden, there is nothing the party can do short of hoping Biden bows out of the race on his own.
Jill Biden is reportedly the most influential person in Joe Biden’s circle.
If anyone is going to talk Joe Biden out of the race, it’s his wife.
But the First Lady isn’t considering anything other than full speed ahead.
Speaking before her husband at a fundraiser, Jill Biden offered full-throated support for Joe Biden.
“Joe isn’t just the right person for the job. He’s the only person for the job,” Jill Biden exclaimed.
National Review’s Jim Geraghty pointed out that saying Joe Biden – especially in his diminished mental capacity – is the only person capable of being President was a stark commentary on Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I’m trying to think of a bigger metaphorical middle finger to Vice President Kamala Harris, and I’m coming up empty,” Geraghty wrote.
Why Joe Biden could stay in the race
Joe Biden ran for re-election for the reason Geraghty hinted at – no respect for Kamala Harris.
Biden doesn’t think the woman who polls show is the most unpopular Vice President of all time can win a general election.
“If Biden stays in, it’s for the same reason he decided to run again. He and the oligarchy believe he has a much better chance of beating former President Trump than Vice President Harris does,” Axios reports.
And Jill Biden has her own particular beef with Harris.
According to journalists Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns’ book, This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future, Jill Biden didn’t want Harris on the ticket in the first place.
Jill Biden’s problem with Harris was that at the first Democrat debate in 2020, Harris essentially called Joe Biden a racist for working with segregationist Senators in the 1970s.
“‘There are millions of people in the United States,’ she began. ‘Why,’ she asked, ‘do we have to choose the one who attacked Joe,’” Martin and Burns reported.
Biden’s slack-jawed, vacant-eyed response to Harris calling him a bigot in front of millions of viewers was the first time Americans saw Biden’s cognitive impairment on display.
