Matthew McConaughey is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood.

Now he’s getting attention for a reason other than his movie career.

And a picture of Matthew McConaughey and his wife without pants sent the Internet into a frenzy.

Matthew McConaughey and his wife strip down to promote their tequila brand

A-list actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves launched a tequila brand last year, Pantalones Tequila.

Now the couple is drawing attention to the brand with a unique marketing campaign that’s creating headlines.

McConaughey and Alves released a picture of themselves playing croquet without their pants.

McConaughey is wearing what should’ve been a three-piece brown suit with a hat while his wife has on a sweater vest and collared shirt.

And the couple isn’t wearing any pants with that section of the image pixelated.

The picture is the latest in the couple’s marketing scheme for the tequila that features them in ads without pants.

Previously, they released a video of them playing pickleball without pants.

This is a play on the tequila’s name.

Pantalones is the Spanish word for pants.

“Clever – Pantalones tequila strikes again,” a social media user said in reaction to the picture.

A spokesman for Pantalones Tequila said McConaughey and Alves came up with the idea of not wearing any pants in the ads.

The brand put out a press release earlier this month explaining that Pantalones is trying to bring the fun back to tequila.

“We’re precious about our tequila, not our pants,” the Pantalones Tequila press release read. “With the explosion in popularity of tequila, there’s a level of snootiness that’s crept into the category. People now talk about tequila the way they talk about wine.”

Tequila was once considered a low-end liquor but its newfound popularity has seen an explosion in pricey premium brands.

“While we’re all for being passionate about tequila, we wanted to remind people that, above all, it’s meant to be fun,” the press release continued. “That’s where the name Pantalones came from and that’s why you won’t see us wearing any.”

Pantalones Tequila runs from $45 to $55 for a bottle depending on the blend.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves looking to join the celebrity tequila trend

McConaughey and his wife are latecomers to the celebrity tequila trend.

They joked in the announcement for their brand that the world didn’t need another celebrity tequila.

Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar started the trend when he launched his Cabo Wabo Tequila in the mid-1990s.

He said that he never intended it to be viewed as a celebrity brand.

“When I first started this, I didn’t want it to be a ‘celebrity’ brand,” Hagar told VinePair.

His business partner suggested they branch out to other types of alcohol but the rocker refused.

“And I said, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, what do you mean celebrity brand? Cabo Wabo isn’t a celebrity brand,’” Hagar said. “I was insulted!”

Hagar later sold his stake in Cabo Wabo for $80 million in 2007.

Since then, celebrities like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, George Clooney, and Michael Jordan have all launched tequila brands.
