Prince Harry was warned about dating Meghan Markle
Prince Harry got engaged to D-list actress Meghan Markle a little over a year after they went on their first date in 2016.
Her celebrity status skyrocketed after she became connected to the British Royal Family.
But Markle might not have been ready for everything that came with becoming a Royal, according to one expert.
Former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond said that was a stark contrast to how Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, handled their relationship.
“Kate was given ten years to peer into the goldfish bowl of Royal life,” Bond said. “I think it was brilliant she saw all the restrictions and glare of publicity it brings. Because their courtship was so long, she was able to judge that she could hack it – and William could see that too.”
The speed at which Harry and Meghan’s relationship was moving alarmed William.
“This is why William was correct to guide or warn Harry ‘Are you sure you’re not going a bit fast in this relationship with Meghan?’” Bond explained.
“It affronted Harry to be questioned like that but I think it came from a good place,” Bond added.
Harry and Meghan were married in 2018 after dating for less than two years.
But William and Kate took it slow by dating for eight years before they tied the knot in 2011.
Harry admits that he was warned about dating Meghan Markle
Harry admitted in his 2023 memoir, Spare, that William warned him about dating an actress.
“She’s an American actress, after all, Harold. Anything might happen,” William told Harry.
Harry and Meghan quit their jobs as working Royals two years after their marriage to move to California.
Bond predicted that Harry would never become a working Royal again.
“And yes – I do miss him. Harry was the most popular Royal a couple of years ago, wasn’t he?” Bond said. “Having watched him grow up and knowing him just a little bit, he was a wonderful little boy and a charming, jovial adolescent.”
“At least that’s what we saw. He was brilliant for the royal family, he did bring a natural common touch and relatability,” Bond added.
But that all came crashing down when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle launched a full-scale assault on the British Royal Family.
Harry’s memoir, Spare, a high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey, and a Netflix series that aired dirty laundry and cast aspersions on his family created a rift in the Royal Family.
Now his relationship is strained to the point that his father, King Charles III, didn’t even visit with him on his last trip to the United Kingdom.
Prince Harry’s life would have turned out completely different if he had listened to his brother’s warnings about dating Meghan Markle.
