Now Trump is bringing the Republican Party back to that same city – for something no president has ever attempted.
And Donald Trump just rewrote the Midterm playbook and Democrats have no answer for it.
No One Has Ever Thrown Out the Midterm Playbook Like This
Every sitting president since Dwight Eisenhower has watched helplessly as the midterms came for his party.
The average loss: 28 House seats and four Senate seats – every single cycle, for nearly a century.
Trump decided to fight it anyway, and the Republican National Committee rewrote its own bylaws in January to make it possible.
“We are going to celebrate the GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK, and the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda,” the president wrote on Truth Social in June when announcing the event. “It will be a RALLY like none other!”
The last time either party attempted anything like a midterm national gathering, it was Democrats in the 1970s and 1980s – convening after elections were already over, trying to paper over internal divisions.

Trump and Vance taking the stage September 9th and 10th at American Airlines Center in Dallas isn't a campaign rally – it's a two-day prime-time advertisement for everything Republicans have delivered.
No tax on tips.
No tax on overtime.
The largest tax cut in American history.
A border that actually works.
Oil prices dropping while Iran is being denuclearized.
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters put it plainly: "This president has given us so many great things to rally around and to highlight and showcase that many Americans may not be familiar with."
Democrats have spent 18 months screaming "chaos" while Republicans quietly delivered – and now Trump is forcing the country to watch.
Schumer Is Panicking and Trying to Hide It
Chuck Schumer's response tells you exactly how worried Democrats really are.
"Trump knows he can't defend Republicans' abysmal record," Schumer said last month.
That's the same Chuck Schumer who watched his party lose the Senate, the House, and the White House in 2024 – and has no policy wins to show for the years he spent in power.
Schumer doesn't want Americans watching two nights of Trump achievements because he knows what happens when they do.
They remember that Trump actually keeps his promises.

But anger isn't a governing philosophy, and the convention is designed to remind Republicans what they're fighting to protect.
Trump's own words from Truth Social sum it up: "The Radical Left Lunatics are trying to destroy our Country, but they have failed, and will never be successful, unless we allow that to happen – AND WE WON'T!"
“We are going to WIN the Midterms, protect and cherish our Country, and make it GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE,” he added.
After September 10th, Trump launches a barnstorming tour of competitive races right up to Election Day – turning the convention into the opening gun of the final sprint.
No president has ever built a midterm machine like this before.
Democrats are counting on 90 years of history to save them.
Trump just put an arena full of Republicans in Dallas and dared them to try.
