The Two-Word Post That Launched a Thousand Comebacks
Trump signed an executive order Thursday renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America – a direct shot at Canada amid a trade war that erupted after Ottawa walked away from a deal U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer called "a missed opportunity for Canada."
Clinton, apparently unable to resist, logged onto X and posted two words: "It's Lake Ontario."

That was it. Two words. No argument. No policy point.
Just a former failed presidential candidate informing the sitting president of the United States what a lake is called.
What followed was a conservative pile-on that racked up 3 million views in hours.
"It's not President Hillary Clinton – and never will be," conservative commentator CJ Pearson wrote.
"It's President Donald J. Trump," the Republican National Committee posted.
"And you'll never be President," Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee added.
"Loser says what?" conservative commentator Jillian King Anderson replied.
Clinton, notably, had turned off replies on her account before posting.
She wanted to land a punch and take no hits back.
The internet found her anyway.
Trump Has Done This Before – and Won
This is not the first time Trump has used a geographic rename to drive Democrats completely out of their minds.

On day one of his second term in January 2025, Trump signed an executive order changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
Democrats screamed.
The media sneered.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote angry letters to Google begging them not to comply.
Google changed the name anyway. Apple followed. Microsoft followed.
The Gulf of America is now what Americans see on every major map app on their phones.
Now he is running the same play with Lake Ontario – and the only person who stepped up to defend Canada's honor was the woman who lost to him by 306 electoral votes a decade ago.
"Canada has been ripping us off for a long time on trade," Trump said Thursday. "They don't pay for anything, and they want to be treated like a state, but they're not a state."
The rename had a trigger.
Canada walked away from a trade deal that was essentially done, and USTR Jamieson Greer said publicly that Canada "declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed earlier this week" and reversed commitments it had already made.
Trump responded with 50% tariffs on Canadian wine, furniture, and dairy – and then picked up a pen and crossed out the name on a map in the Oval Office.
"All it takes is a good pen and some intelligence," Trump said, writing "Lake America" in its place.
Clinton Doesn't Speak for Anyone Anymore – Democrats Know It
The brutal irony is that Clinton handed conservatives a reminder of 2016 at the exact moment the left needed to be talking about tariffs, trade policy, and Canada.
Instead the story became Hillary Clinton – again – being mocked – again – by the entire conservative internet.
Michael Knowles put it plainly: "Democrats preferring Canada to America is the least surprising thing I've seen all day."
Conservative radio host Vince Coglianese called it "shooting blanks."
Former Trump DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin summed it up with maximum economy: "Trump Controls the News Cycle Volume 87187585124782."
She is not wrong.
Trump signed an executive order, held an Oval Office ceremony with maps and placards, put the image of him crossing out "Lake Ontario" and writing "Lake America" in front of every camera in Washington – and the biggest Democrat response came from a woman whose own party has spent years quietly trying to move past her.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney pushed back with a history lesson, noting the name predates both nations and comes from the Wendat word meaning "the lake is beautiful, the lake is big."
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said New York "won't be calling it that."
Nobody cares what Kathy Hochul calls the lake.
Google and Apple do – and they updated their maps to the Gulf of America within weeks of Trump's 2025 order.
The Lake America update is coming.
It always does.
Hillary Clinton posted two words and reminded every conservative in America exactly why 2016 happened.
Trump signed an executive order and won the news cycle before breakfast.
The man still lives in her head rent-free.
