Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats’ control over the House of Representatives is declining by the day.
And that’s due, in part, to the fact that so many Democrats would rather retire than try to defend Joe Biden and the Democrats’ absolute failures.
But now, Nancy Pelosi has to deal with the very real possibility that she could lose another Democrat seat in Congress for one of the most crooked and corrupt reasons imaginable.
Earlier this week, the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), an independent watchdog, reported that Representative Marie Newman (D-IL) “allegedly” bribed Iymen Hamman Chehade, a potential 2020 primary opponent, to not run against her in exchange for a job in Newman’s congressional office.
The OCE’s report reads, “In summary, the evidence collected by the OCE supports a finding that Rep. Newman had knowledge of Mr. Chehade’s intent to run for the 2020 congressional seat when she knowingly entered into an employment contract with Mr. Chehade promising him future employment in her official office if he did not submit or announce his candidacy for the same congressional seat.”
Now in case you’re thinking about giving Rep. Newman any benefit of the doubt, please keep reading.
The report continues, “there is substantial documentary evidence demonstrating that Rep. Newman at the very least had knowledge of Mr. Chehade’s intent to run in the 2020 Democratic primary.”
In the report, the OCE cites an email from Chehade to Newman, which detailed an in-person meeting between the two and included a proposal that was discussed “allegedly” during that meeting.
A few days later, Newman responded to Chehade’s email by saying “most of it (the proposal) looks good” and that she had a few concerns with the proposal, which centered around its phrasing.
However, earlier this year Chehade filed a lawsuit against Newman for “allegedly” violating their deal, which would’ve landed him a cushy job in Newman’s office where he would’ve been “earning” a salary of up to $140,000.
And perhaps even more damning, the suit was settled by Newman for an undisclosed amount.
So, not only has Representative Newman been accused of bribery but she’s also been accused of double-crossing the man she allegedly bribed.
While the OCE has no real power, they did vote 6-0 to forward their findings to the House Ethics Committee.
And the House Ethics Committee does have the power to subpoena witnesses and recommend punishments for those they find guilty.
Hopefully, the no-good Newman will be kicked out of Congress if not by the House Ethics Committee and other members of the U.S. House, then by the voters.
