Dwayne Johnson spent years letting Hollywood tell him what to think.
Then he told Esquire he was done – and two Star Trek actors lost their minds.
Now two men who haven't had a hit movie since the Clinton era are calling the biggest box office star on earth a coward.
The Meltdown Nobody Saw Coming
George Takei went first.
The 89-year-old Star Trek icon took to Threads to demand Johnson go public with his politics – and declared that staying quiet makes him "complicit."
Then Wil Wheaton – best known for playing an annoying teenager on Star Trek: The Next Generation in the 1980s – jumped in with something even more unhinged.
"So disappointing to find out he is such a coward," Wheaton wrote.
Then he deleted it.

Because that's what courage looks like in 2026 Hollywood – call a 6'4" 260-pound former WWE champion a coward, then quietly erase the evidence.
Johnson had told Esquire exactly why he made this decision.
"What I have learned through experience is that I need to keep – need, not want – the main thing the main thing," he said. "I've learned I'm going to keep my politics to myself. Politics is omnipresent and it's forever. I don't like it. I hate it at times. I hate the slinging. I hate all the bulls— that comes with it."
That's not cowardice.
That's a man who got burned once and learned from it.
The Biden Endorsement He Now Regrets
Johnson endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 – the first political endorsement of his career.
When he sat down with Fox News's Will Cain in April 2024, he made clear he'd never make that mistake again.
"The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was what I thought was the best decision for me at that time," Johnson told Cain. "That caused an incredible amount of division in our country. So I realize now going into this election, I'm not going to do that."
A man looked at what celebrity political activism actually does – divides the country, costs him fans, and changes nothing – and he made a rational decision.

That's the "cowardice" Wheaton is furious about.
Comedian Matt Rife had the only response worth reading.
"I love how he's a 'coward' but could quite literally tear Wil's throat out through his a–hole. This internet comment world is so bold," he said.
That's it.
That's the whole story in two sentences.
Hollywood's Purity Test Has a Tell
The tell is this: Takei and Wheaton don't want more political opinions from celebrities – they want Dwayne Johnson to repeat their political opinions.
"Silence is complicity" only ever means one thing in Hollywood.
Kevin Hart saw it coming years ago.
"For me, I know my lane," Hart said. "The day I jump out that lane and do something else is the day your head gets bit off."
Smart man.
Johnson watched what happened to the stars who kept shouting – and he watched what happened to his own audience after the Biden endorsement.
He drew the obvious conclusion.
Wheaton and Takei are furious because The Rock's silence exposes the whole scam.
If a man with Johnson's platform decides the activist performance isn't worth his time, it forces the question nobody in the Hollywood Left wants to answer: what exactly are these people accomplishing?
They aren't moving votes.
They aren't changing minds.
They're collecting applause from people who already agree with them – and calling anyone who walks away a coward.
Wil Wheaton typed that word, aimed it at the most recognizable man on the planet, and then thought better of it.
The Rock didn't think twice.
