Obama stood at American University in 2010 and explained basic border policy to activists demanding blanket amnesty.
Those immigration advocates wanted him to stop all deportations and legalize everyone here illegally.
Obama shut them down hard.
"I believe such an indiscriminate approach would be both unwise and unfair," Obama declared. "It would suggest to those thinking about coming here illegally that there will be no repercussions for such a decision, and this could lead to a surge in more illegal immigration."
He didn't stop there.
"Ultimately, our nation, like all nations, has the right and obligation to control its borders and set laws for residency and citizenship," Obama continued. "And no matter how decent they are, no matter their reasons, the 11 million who broke these laws should be held accountable."
Wait – a Democrat president saying border enforcement matters?

His administration removed over 3.1 million people in eight years. In 2012 alone, ICE deported 409,849 people – averaging 1,123 per day.
Trump's first term never came close to those numbers, maxing out at 269,000 deportations in 2019.
Immigration activists gave Obama that nickname because he was removing people at unprecedented rates. His administration expanded Bush's Secure Communities program, using local police fingerprints to identify illegal immigrants for deportation.
The Obama record destroys the narrative that mass deportations are some uniquely cruel Trump invention.
Obama did it bigger, longer, and with less pushback from his own party.

The video proves Democrats don't actually oppose deportations – they oppose Trump.
