Tony Fauci spent five years telling America he was the science.
This week he sat before a Senate committee and refused to answer a single question.
Now his own handwriting is being used against him – and what it reveals is worse than anyone suspected.
What Fauci's Own Journal Revealed
This hearing didn't come from nowhere.
Last weekend, Paul released over 1,000 pages of Fauci's pandemic-era diaries – and the gap between what Fauci wrote privately and what he told the country is staggering.
On January 26, 2020, Fauci wrote that the first COVID infection was in early December and "was not connected to the market."
His next line: "Now we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier."
Publicly, Fauci spent months insisting the Wuhan wet market was the origin and dismissing the lab leak as a fringe conspiracy theory.

Six days after that entry, on February 1, Fauci convened a private conference call with prominent virologists.
His own notes show the scientists on that call raised the possibility that the virus had been deliberately engineered – and concluded the question needed serious expert attention.
Days later, those same scientists co-authored "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2" – the paper Fauci publicly cited from the White House podium as definitive proof of natural origins.
Paul's summary of the diary: what Fauci "wrote privately and what he told the country are two different stories."
Paul also released a 465-page companion document – records and email exchanges from 2001 to 2015 – showing Fauci's involvement with the type of gain-of-function research he repeatedly denied funding.
The Hearing Where Fauci Said Nothing
Wednesday's Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing was supposed to be Fauci's moment to explain the discrepancies.
Instead, he showed up with a prepared statement – and refused to answer every question that followed.
More than 100 times, Fauci gave the same response: "On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution."
Republicans tried everything.
Josh Hawley asked Fauci to identify the color of his tie and the carpet. Fifth Amendment.
Questions about gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Fifth Amendment.
Questions about the February 1 conference call. Fifth Amendment.
Ron Johnson put it plainly: "I think it would be almost impossible for you to answer the questions truthfully without really demonstrating what you did."

Paul threw Fauci's attorney David Schertler out of the committee room after Schertler repeatedly tried to speak without being recognized.
Capitol Police escorted him out.
Fauci claimed taking the Fifth "pained" him.
He accused Paul of having an "unhinged obsession" with him and said the senator's only goal was to get him to say something that could put him "behind bars."
"We believe that with his liability, his immunity from criminal liability, that he didn't need to hide behind the Fifth Amendment," Paul told reporters after the hearing – raising the question of whether the Fifth Amendment even attaches when a pardon is already in place.
The contempt vote is scheduled for August 5.
If the committee approves it, the referral goes to the Department of Justice.
Fauci's Own Diary Called Him Out Before Tucker Did
On his podcast, Carlson described Fauci as "shaking," "terrified," and "captured by his own narcissism."
He called him "pathetic."
On X, Carlson went further: "Most people assumed Tony Fauci was either a brilliant scientist or an evil mastermind, or maybe both. His diary reveals he's just a vain teenage girl pining for cable news hits."
That's not a stretch.
The diaries are full of Fauci tracking his media appearances, celebrity encounters, and public praise while millions of Americans had their lives dismantled by lockdown policies he championed without evidence.
He wasn't running a pandemic response.

He was managing a brand.
Wednesday was the logical conclusion of everything Fauci has been since 2020 – a man whose primary concern was always protecting Tony Fauci.
He once told Congress he represented science.
Yesterday he sat in that same room and wouldn't say a word to defend it.
Rand Paul has been right about this from the beginning.
Fauci's own journal is saying so too.
The contempt vote is August 5 – and the DOJ gets to decide whether the man who shut down America for three years faces any consequences at all.
