The climate change lobby has been selling America a bill of goods for decades.
They promised a green energy revolution that would save the planet.
But Trump Energy Secretary Chris Wright just exposed the one ugly truth about green energy that has climate activists fuming.
Ten Trillion Dollars In Renewable Energy Investment Bought Almost Nothing
Energy Secretary Chris Wright delivered a reality check to the climate change industry at the Goldman Sachs Energy Conference in Miami on Wednesday.
The former Liberty Energy CEO didn't mince words about what decades of green energy investment actually delivered.
Wright pointed out that the world has poured ten trillion dollars into fighting climate change over the past several decades.
That's trillion with a T.
And what did all that money buy?
Solar energy now accounts for 1.2% of global energy.
Wind clocks in at 1.4%.
Combined, these renewable sources that swallowed up ten trillion dollars in investment provide just 2.6% of the world's energy.
Meanwhile, oil and natural gas supply over 72% of America's total primary energy consumption.
That's a record high market share.
It doesn't sound like the dying industry the climate activists have been predicting for the last 15 years.
Wright also dropped another bombshell that environmentalists don't want to hear.
Fifty years ago when the energy transition movement started after the Yom Kippur War, hydrocarbons provided 85% of global energy.
Today, hydrocarbons still provide 85% of global energy.
Half a century of climate activism and trillions in investment changed exactly nothing.
Germany's Green Energy Failure: Half Trillion Dollar Renewable Energy Disaster
Wright saved his harshest criticism for countries that went all-in on the green energy transition.
Germany makes the perfect case study in how not to run an energy policy.
The Germans threw a half trillion dollars at renewable energy.
They expanded their electric grid to more than double its previous capacity.
The result?
Germany's electricity production dropped 20% from where it stood before they started this green energy experiment.
Prices tripled.
Wright called it exactly what it is.
That's not a winning model.
The United Kingdom followed the same failed playbook with similar results.
So did California.
These places didn't reduce emissions by shutting down factories and driving up energy costs.
They just moved industry to Asia where it now runs on coal instead of natural gas.
Then they load the goods on diesel ships to transport them back.
That's not fighting climate change.
That's de-industrializing your nation while pretending to care about carbon emissions.
Wright pointed out that the climate lobby never does the math on whether their policies actually work.
They just keep pounding the drum on decarbonization while ignoring the economic carnage they leave behind.
Trump Energy Policy Confirms Reality: Oil, Gas, and Coal Still Run The World
Wright delivered the line that will have environmentalists reaching for their therapy animals.
"Oil, gas, and coal are what run the world. Full stop."
Every wind turbine requires fossil fuels to manufacture.
Every solar panel needs oil and gas to produce.
Even nuclear power plants depend on hydrocarbons for construction.
You need massive amounts of coal to make the steel.
You need oil to transport materials and run the equipment.
You need natural gas to provide the high-temperature heat that manufacturing demands.
That's just reality, whether climate activists like it or not.
Wright explained that about 20% of global primary energy is delivered through the electricity grid.
The other 80% powers things like manufacturing, transportation, and heating.
Wind and solar can only contribute to that 20% slice.
And even within electricity generation, they need constant backup from reliable sources because the sun doesn't always shine and the wind doesn't always blow.
The numbers Wright cited aren't controversial.
They're just facts that the climate change industry doesn't want people thinking about too carefully.
Because once Americans understand that ten trillion dollars bought almost nothing, they might start asking tougher questions about where all that money went.
