Tom Homan Just Confirmed the Criminal Investigation Ilhan Omar Called Bigoted Lies

Ilhan Omar spent years calling the marriage fraud allegations "bigoted lies."

Now the man running the investigation just went on television and called it a criminal case.

Tom Homan looked into the camera Sunday and said what Democrats prayed he never would say about Ilhan Omar.

What Homan Said and What It Means

Border Czar Tom Homan appeared on The Sunday Briefing and confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations – the elite federal criminal investigative arm of DHS – is actively running a case involving Omar.

"I know things are going on, but I can't give specifics of what's happening," Homan said.

He didn't have to say more.

When the nation's top immigration enforcement officer confirms an "ongoing criminal investigation" involving a sitting member of Congress, that is not a fishing expedition.

That is a case being built.

Homan also spelled out exactly what the endgame looks like for anyone who lied their way through the naturalization process.

"If someone lies through that process to becoming a citizen, and we can prove they, in fact, lied or misrepresented themselves, we can absolutely denaturalize them," he said. "We've done it before many times over the last 40 years I've been around."

Denaturalization for immigration fraud is a legal tool the government has used for decades – and the Trump administration is now using it at a record pace.

The Tax Returns She Filed While Married to Someone Else

What Omar has never done is explain the documented inconsistencies in her own marriage records.

In 2009, she legally married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi – a British citizen federal investigators allege is her biological brother – while simultaneously maintaining a religious union with Ahmed Hirsi, the man she lives with today and the father of her children.

State investigators found she filed joint federal tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and 2015 while still legally married to Elmi.

She never explained the tax filings.

She never explained the overlapping marriages.

She put her hand in a reporter's face when he asked.

That is not the behavior of someone with nothing to hide.

Judicial Watch formally asked Congress to investigate, calling the documented evidence "substantial, compelling and, to date, unrefuted."

Ted Cruz laid out the specific criminal exposure: federal marriage fraud carries up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine – and deportation.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin went further on a recent podcast, stating flatly that the agency believes Omar married her brother to bring him into the country and that the man now lives in London.

"Something's going to happen," Mullin said. "This is an ongoing investigation."

Vice President JD Vance confirmed in March that he personally discussed potential legal action against Omar with Stephen Miller.

"We think Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America," Vance said.

The System Doing What It Was Built to Do

The Omar investigation is not happening in isolation.

The Trump administration has filed roughly 89 denaturalization cases since taking office – four times what the Biden administration managed across its entire four years.

The DOJ wants 250 cases opened by October 2026.

Senator Eric Schmitt's SCAM Act would expand denaturalization grounds further, with Stephen Miller's explicit backing.

This is not a witch hunt targeting one congresswoman.

This is a system being rebuilt to do what it was always supposed to do – remove people who gamed it.

Omar's family arrived here as asylum seekers in 1995.

She took the citizenship oath in 2000.

She built a congressional career on claiming victimhood from the very country that took her in.

If she cheated that system – or used it to bring someone else in illegally – the law is clear.

And Tom Homan just confirmed the people enforcing that law are already at work.

She has had ten years to get her story straight.

Ten years is a long time to stay ahead of the HSI fraud investigator Homan calls one of the best in the business.
