Todd Blanche Lowered the Boom on the Fake News Reporters at CNN With This Epic Takedown

In 2018, a White House intern had to physically grab the microphone out of Jim Acosta's hands.

Trump pulled Acosta's credential that night – and a judge forced him to give it back.

Todd Blanche lowered the boom on the Fake News reporters at CNN with this epic takedown.

Trump Finally Did What Every Conservative Has Wanted for Years

On September 18, President Trump banned CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House.

Not suspended. Not warned.

Banned – citing years of one-sided, inaccurate coverage that he called damaging to the country.

The media had a meltdown.

A federal judge issued a temporary 14-day restraining order forcing the White House to let them back in while the lawsuit plays out.

And then Attorney General Todd Blanche went on ABC's This Week and explained exactly why Trump is going to win this fight.

"After years and years and years of one-sided media coverage of the president from certain outlets," Blanche told Martha Raddatz, "the president finally said it's not fair to the American people that this is happening and did something about it."

That is not spin.

That is the lived experience of 80 million Americans who watched the same networks call every Trump policy a catastrophe while burying every Biden failure.

The National Security Argument That Has Liberals Furious

The DOJ's court filings didn't just argue that the White House can pick who gets in the door.

They argued that CNN's reporting – specifically, stories about a secure facility beneath the White House East Wing and coverage tied to Iran operations – exposed sensitive information that gave foreign adversaries a window into White House operations.

Blanche made this case directly to Raddatz when she pushed back on the judge's skepticism.

"When you have completely misinformation coming out of the White House, that affects our relationship with our foreign partners, that affects our relationship with our foreign enemies," he said. "This is not just about the fact that they're refusing to report accurate news."

The left wants you to think this is Trump being a baby about bad press.

What it actually is – a president making the case that a press pool operating inside the most secure building in America has to meet some minimum standard of accuracy and basic security responsibility.

The Legal Battle CNN Thought They Already Won

CNN's lawyers are pointing to a 1977 D.C. Circuit ruling called Sherrill v. Knight.

That case held that once the White House opens press facilities to journalists, the First Amendment means access cannot be denied arbitrarily or for less than compelling reasons.

That's the precedent.

That's why the judge issued the temporary order.

But here's what CNN is glossing over.

Sherrill also said the government can deny access for compelling reasons – and the Trump administration has now put specific national security claims in the court record, citing actual stories and actual alleged harms.

The judge wrote there was nothing in the pre-lawsuit record to suggest national security was ever the real motivation.

He was right – because at the time Trump announced the ban, he hadn't built the record yet.

Now there are letters.

There are specific story citations.

There is a documented process.

In 2018, when Trump pulled Acosta's credential, the court restored access because the administration had no procedural record to stand on.

The DOJ isn't making that mistake twice.

CNN's lawyers are fighting the last war.

This Is Bigger Than Three Outlets

The media is covering this as a free press story.

It's actually a power story.

For 30 years, four or five major networks held a monopoly on what the American people saw coming out of the White House.

They decided who was a credible source.

They decided which stories mattered.

They decided how Trump – and Reagan, and Bush, and every Republican before them – would be framed for the country.

Trump is the first president with enough political capital and enough genuine contempt for that arrangement to blow it up.

If Trump wins this lawsuit, the press pool model that has governed White House access since the Nixon era is finished.

A president who can ban CNN today can restructure the entire credentialing system tomorrow – replacing a press corps that operates like a liberal political action committee with one that at minimum has to play it straight.

That is what the left is actually terrified about.

Not CNN's access.

The precedent.

The American people deserve accurate news from the White House, Blanche said Sunday – and it doesn't have to be positive.

It just has to be fair. CNN hasn't been fair since 2016, and for the first time, there's a president willing to make that argument in federal court with receipts.
