Joe Biden is trying to pull a fast one on drivers.
One of his most totalitarian moves yet was quietly tucked into a massive bill.
And Thomas Massie sounded the alarm on this sinister Biden scheme aimed at drivers.
A new federal law was quietly inserted in the sprawling 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill that mandated that all new vehicles have a “kill switch” installed in them starting in 2026.
The technology was sold as a safety measure to stop drunk drivers by “passively monitoring the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired.”
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) warned that the “kill switch” would become “a backseat driver” for the public during an interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News.
The Kentucky lawmaker tried to have the mandate repealed but 19 RINOs joined with Democrats to vote down his amendment.
“People said I’m a conspiracy theorist for saying this is in the legislation, but I actually had to read the Democrats, the bill that they passed two years ago,” Massie said. “They passed this in 2021 as part of a 1,039-page bill to require that your car can monitor your driving performance. And if it thinks you are not driving well, it could disable your vehicle.”
Drivers could be stranded on the side of the road thanks to the arbitrary whims of the government-mandated kill switch.
“Imagine you are a mom with kids in the car and you swerve for a deer and you pulled over for emergency vehicle to go by and you have only got one swerve left,” Massie continued. “Before it shuts you down and takes you to the side of the road. My question is, how do you appeal your conviction when you are sitting at the side of the road with a car that won’t run, who knows where, stranded?”
Massie shut down the mischaracterization of the kill switch as a safety device to stop drunk drivers from Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI).
“This isn’t a breathalyzer, 31 states already have ignition interlock devices where if you have been convicted of a DUI, you have to blow through that in order to start your car,” Massie said. “That’s not what this is. This bill also has the ability, it says, car manufacturers need to somehow passively monitor the air in the car to see if you have been drinking. The problem with that is what if you are the designated driver and you are trying to get somebody home who has had too much to drink? There are so many ways this could go wrong. It’s basically a backseat driver and nanny.”
Massie pointed out that even Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) voted for his amendment to repeal the mandate.
The kill switch is going to be another nightmare for drivers to deal with courtesy of President Joe Biden.
