The radicals in the Democrat Party are taking over.
The moderates have either gotten on board, or kept their mouths shut.
Now, one far-left Democrat who wants to defund the police has some serious explaining to do.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, part of the far-left quartet known as “The Squad,” has been out front in pushing for the police to be defunded.
Pressley said that the defund movement was “about the investment in our communities which have historically been divested from….This is simply about a refund. This is about true reparations. This is about investment in communities.”
And while Pressley was calling for the police to be defunded, she was supposedly receiving tens of thousands of dollars in private security, all paid for with taxpayer money.
The Daily Caller reported that “[a]ccording to the new Statement of Disbursements of the House records, Pressley spent $63,000 of her Member Representational Allowance (MRA) on ‘security service’ in 2021 — spending $28,000 between Oct. 1, 2021 and Dec. 31, 2021 and $35,000 between May 2021 and August 2021.”
So Pressley spent $63,000 in security over a seven-month span.
That probably was not the “reparations” she or her constituents had in mind.
The Daily Caller also reported that “the money was directed to Alisa Tatarian, who is a Financial Administrator at the U.S. House of Representatives. It is not clear how that money was finally spent. The Daily Caller contacted Tatarian as well as Pressley’s office several times about the money that was spent on ‘security service,’ to which they did not respond.”
This is how the Left operates.
They always find a way to exempt themselves from the ramifications of their own ideology.
Pressley does not care that the murder rate jumped 30% in 2020, the highest-single year increase in American history.
She will be comfortably protected as she supports pro-crime policies.
House GOP Chairwoman Elise Stefanik called out Pressley’s hypocrisy saying:
“Ayanna Pressley and her fellow Squad members have repeatedly called for our police to be defunded while simultaneously paying top dollar for their own private security with taxpayer funds. All while violent crime rates are surging across our cities. Pressley and the rest of the Squad want police for them but not for us. Democrats are the party of elitist hypocrites and defunding the police. The American people know this, and that is why this November there will be a red tsunami.”
Stefanik is right, and the Democrats know it.
That’s why dozens of them are not seeking re-election in the 2022 midterms.
