Trump's border enforcement has sanctuary city Democrats in full panic mode.
One progressive mayor thought he could intimidate federal agents on camera.
And this blue city mayor just got absolutely destroyed after he made one fatal mistake with Border Patrol.
Evanston Mayor Thought He Could Grandstand for the Cameras
Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino returned to the Chicago area this week with hundreds of agents to resume Operation Midway Blitz after spending time in Charlotte and New Orleans.
The moment Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss heard federal agents were enforcing immigration law in his city, he raced to the scene dressed in his best tailored coat and dress shoes.
Biss positioned himself directly in front of Bovino as protesters blew whistles and screamed around them, clearly hoping the cameras would capture his big resistance moment.
"The abuse has not been acceptable. The racism has not been acceptable. The violence has not been acceptable," Biss declared, reciting what sounded like talking points straight from a Democrat Party memo.¹
Bovino, surrounded by tactical agents in masks, didn't flinch.
Border Patrol Chief Delivered the Perfect Response
Instead of backing down, Bovino fired back with brutal clarity.
"Yeah, that's why we're here in your community," Bovino responded, turning Biss's accusation into an indictment of the mayor's own failures.²
The exchange got even worse for Biss when he claimed to be "unaware" of violence committed by illegal aliens in his city.
"Well, that's probably the problem. Maybe you should get aware," Bovino told him.³
Translation: You're failing your job so badly that federal agents have to clean up your mess.
Commander Gregory Bovino later posted on social media that Biss confronted him a second time 45 minutes later at another enforcement location, confirming this was political theater, not genuine concern for public safety.⁴
Bovino called it an "excellent day in Evanston."⁵
This Mayor's Real Problem Just Got Exposed
Biss ran for reelection as Evanston's mayor this year on a platform of "standing up to Trump."
He's now running for Congress in Illinois's 9th District, trying to replace retiring Democrat Representative Jan Schakowsky in the March 2026 primary.⁶
Recent polling shows Biss tied with progressive TikTok personality Kat Abughazaleh at 18% each, with 31% of voters still undecided.⁷
That's why Biss needed this confrontation – he desperately wants viral footage of himself "resisting" Trump to energize left-wing primary voters.
After federal agents left, Biss took to social media to escalate his rhetoric even further.
"The only 'violent mob' in Evanston today was Greg Bovino and his masked thugs, terrorizing innocent people and then lying about our city to try and sow chaos," Biss posted, adding that Evanston is "safe in spite of ICE/CBP, not because of it."⁸
He concluded with: "Don't come back."
Bovino responded by pointing out that his agents were in Evanston "to make his city a safer place" and said Biss "fell back into the divisive talking points that we've heard ad nauseam."⁹
Border Patrol arrested a man at a gas station and detained two others at a Home Depot after agents smashed a truck window during Wednesday's operation in Evanston.¹⁰
Democrats Created This Disaster
Evanston's violent crime rate stands at 2 per 1,000 residents, lower than both the Illinois state average of 3.1 per 1,000 and the national rate of 3.6 per 1,000.¹¹
But Biss has spent his tenure as mayor implementing radical sanctuary city policies, including a strengthened "Welcoming City Ordinance" that shields illegal aliens from federal enforcement.¹²
When federal agents arrived to enforce immigration law, Biss accused them of operating without warrants.
Bovino corrected him: "I am. They're not residents. They're illegal aliens, that's not a resident. Don't use that type of language, Mr. Mayor, that's the wrong language."¹³
The Department of Homeland Security made clear that operations in Chicago are far from over.
"As we said a month ago, we aren't leaving Chicago and operations are ongoing," DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated. "Operation Midway Blitz is achieving what Chicago's sanctuary politicians have refused to do for decades: decrease crime and remove the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens who put the American people in danger."¹⁴
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker joined the hysteria, calling the federal enforcement "harassment" and encouraging residents to "pull out your whistles and your phones" to document agents doing their jobs.¹⁵
Democrats spent decades creating sanctuary cities that harbor illegal aliens and now they're shocked when federal law enforcement shows up to enforce the law.
Biss thought confronting Bovino would make him look tough for his congressional campaign.
Instead, he exposed himself as a sanctuary city radical more concerned with protecting illegal aliens than keeping Americans safe.
