Christopher Sign broke the tarmac story that nearly ended Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign.
Five years later, his body was cremated before his own mother could say goodbye.
Now his family is telling America what the police reports never will – and what they're describing doesn't sound like a suicide.
The Story That Made Him a Target
Sign was a 45-year-old ABC affiliate anchor in Birmingham when he stumbled onto the bombshell of the 2016 election cycle.
On June 27, 2016, Bill Clinton boarded Loretta Lynch's private plane on a Phoenix tarmac.
Lynch was the sitting Attorney General – the woman whose Justice Department was deciding whether to charge Hillary Clinton over her illegal private email server.
Sign broke the story.
Lynch was forced to say publicly she'd defer to prosecutors and the FBI on charging Hillary.
The story exploded.
Sign told everyone who would listen what came next: death threats, immediate and relentless.

He was so certain he'd become a target that he wrote it down in his 2020 book, Secret on the Tarmac – along with one detail his family can't stop thinking about.
He was not suicidal.
What His Family Found
On June 12, 2021, Sign's wife Laura and his oldest son found him hanged in their Hoover, Alabama home with a dog leash – his feet touching the floor.
The Jefferson County Coroner ruled it suicide.
Sign stood 6'1" and weighed 215 pounds – a former University of Alabama offensive lineman.
His Alabama teammate Josh Swords described him as a man at the peak of his life.
"This was a 45-year-old guy at the top of his game with a beautiful stay-at-home wife and three rising superstar sons," Swords said. "He loves his job, he came home on a Friday night after a great week at work – and decides to kill himself at home where his boys are? No way, no how."
Bill Naugher, who helped publish Sign's book, reached the same conclusion.
"None of it makes any sense," Naugher said. "It's very fishy. I don't know what to think but I know nothing in this story adds up."
The Hoover police chief and captain both refused to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail.
The Cremation No One Authorized
Sign's brother Bobby says what happened after the death is what haunts the family most.
The body was cremated two days after his death – before his mother Susan could drive from Texas to see her son one last time.

Bobby says the cremation happened at a morgue outside of Hoover, and that security cameras inside the home had been turned off.
"So many things happened – somebody did this to him," Bobby said. "Somebody turned off the cameras in his house. Somebody took the body from his house and went to a bad part of town, to a morgue and had his body cremated. Somebody did this in the house with the kids there."
When Susan arrived at the Hoover home after driving from Texas, she found strangers she didn't recognize and Laura barely speaking.
Bobby's account of the family's treatment was worse. "She treated my mom like s**t and all the Sign family had to find hotels when we came for Chris' funeral while Laura's family stayed at their house."
Then, in 2023, Sign's sister Stephanie got a phone call.
Laura called, rambling, and told Stephanie "this was a terrible, terrible mistake" – then hung up before explaining what she meant.
"I kept saying to her, 'What was the mistake? Tell me what it was,'" Stephanie said. "I kept her on the phone for as long as I could and then she just abruptly hung up."
Laura Sign has since gotten engaged to a man she began seeing within a year of Christopher's death.
She received $2 million from a life insurance policy and had the mortgage paid off.
She has reportedly cut the Sign family off from her life – and from Christopher's three sons.
The Pattern That Never Gets Investigated
Here's what should make every American furious.
The Clintons have accumulated a body count that would trigger a federal task force if it surrounded anyone else.
Legacy Firearms catalogued 46 people with Clinton ties who died under suspicious circumstances – and that list isn't exhaustive.
The names go back decades.
Vince Foster, the deputy White House counsel, was found dead in 1993.
Seth Rich, the DNC staffer, was shot in Washington in 2016 – the same year Sign broke the tarmac story.

The pattern is always the same: someone gets close to Clinton legal exposure, the person dies, the official account doesn't hold up, and Washington moves on.
Nobody investigates. Nobody asks the hard questions.
Christopher Sign spent years asking the hard questions.
He wrote a book warning he wasn't suicidal, told his friends and family the same thing, and then – by official account – killed himself in his own home, with his children there, while the cameras were off, before his family could see him one last time.
His mother never got to say goodbye.
His brother and sister have been cut off from their nephews.
And somewhere, the woman who told his sister "this was a terrible, terrible mistake" is engaged to another man and not talking.
Forty-six deaths. One family. Zero investigations.
That's not a coincidence – that's protection.
