Sound of Freedom came out of nowhere to become one of the biggest movie hits last year.
The film is starting to finally receive the praise it deserves from critics.
And Sound of Freedom won this major award that Hollywood never saw coming.
Sound of Freedom became the surprise box office hit of 2023 powered by word of mouth.
It’s based on the true story of former Homeland Security agent Tim Ballard’s mission to rescue children from sex traffickers in South America.
The movie beat offers from established summer blockbuster franchises like Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones to become the 10th highest-grossing film last year and one of the most successful independent films of all time.
Sound of Freedom’s success is more remarkable because it languished on a shelf for five years at Disney unreleased until Angel Studios purchased its rights.
It wasn’t a surprise the film was shut out of the Oscars by Hollywood at the annual Academy Awards but it still received well-deserved recognition.
Sound of Freedom wins at the 2024 Movieguide Awards
The Movieguide Awards Gala is the antithesis of the Academy Awards featuring woke, left-wing Hollywood actors.
It is an award event to honor movies, television, and streaming content that promotes a positive message, Biblical values, and good morals.
Sound of Freedom was given the Faith and Freedom Award for Movies.
It beat out Bank of Dave, Golda, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant to bring home the award.
Angel Studios celebrates their big win
“We were honored to have several Angel projects celebrated this year, and to have Sound of Freedom win the Faith and Freedom award was an incredible highlight, showing how the film continues to resonate with audiences in the U.S. and around the world,” Angel Studios Chief Distribution Officer Jared Geesey told the Washington Examiner.
Angel Studios also had a documentary, After Death, nominated for the Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring Movie award but it didn’t win.
Sound of Freedom was also nominated for Best Movie for Mature Audiences but it lost to Jesus Revolution starring Kelsey Grammer.
Jesus Revolution is based on the true story of a Southern California pastor played by Grammer who welcomes hippies into his congregation in the 1960s and 70s.
“Movieguide is an incredible partner and advocate. Their commitment to help audiences connect with excellent projects that mirror their values has been a lighthouse for many families,” Geesey added.
Hollywood may have snubbed Sound of Freedom at the Oscars but it still earned an award after it made a powerful connection with audiences.
