Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stood on stage in Davos and told the world exactly why Trump needs Greenland.
Democrats and the media spent weeks pretending this was all theater.
But Scott Bessent just revealed Trump's real plan for Greenland.
Bessent reveals Golden Dome missile defense needs Greenland
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent walked onto the stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday and dropped a bomb that sent European elites into full panic mode.
Speaking with Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo, Bessent didn't mince words about why President Trump views Greenland as absolutely critical to American security.
"I think the president has a very strong view on Western Hemisphere security and believes that the U.S. should not outsource our national security," Bessent told the Davos audience.
"He believes that Greenland is essential for the Golden Dome missile shield."
Bessent explained Trump's concern that if another nation moved into Greenland, the United States would be forced to defend it anyway.
Russia and China are already making moves in the Arctic.
"The president is worried that if there were an incursion into Greenland, the U.S. would be called upon to defend Greenland," Bessent continued.
"Greenland is becoming more and more attractive for foreign conquest."
Trump's Golden Dome is a massive $175 billion missile defense system designed to protect America from ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, and advanced cruise missiles from anywhere in the world.
Greenland sits right between the United States and Russia.
The island's location makes it critical for detecting and intercepting missiles before they can reach American soil.
"There's the opportunity for the U.S. to become embroiled, exposed into a kinetic war if another country moved in on Greenland," Bessent warned.
"And no country is going to assert control of Greenland if the U.S. controls Greenland."
The Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the planet.
That's opening new shipping lanes and making Greenland's massive reserves of rare earth minerals accessible for the first time.
China already declared itself a "near-Arctic state" and sent three icebreakers to the region in 2024.
Russia re-militarized huge portions of the Arctic and reopened bases they'd abandoned after the Cold War.
Meanwhile, Denmark can barely defend itself, let alone a territory the size of Greenland.
Democrats claimed Trump wanted Greenland for his ego — Bessent just proved them wrong
For weeks, Democrats and their media allies insisted Trump's interest in Greenland was just his real estate background talking.
They claimed he wanted to slap the Trump name on the world's largest island.
Bessent just blew that narrative to pieces.
Trump's Golden Dome requires Greenland.
The island sits astride the GIUK Gap — the critical naval chokepoint between Greenland, Iceland, and the United Kingdom that connects the Arctic to the Atlantic.
During the Cold War, NATO used this passage to track Soviet submarines trying to break into the Atlantic.
Greenland hosts the Pituffik Space Base, home to early warning radars that give America its first look at incoming missiles from Russia.
Without Greenland, the Golden Dome doesn't work.
Distance used to protect America.
Russian or Chinese missiles had to travel thousands of miles to reach the continental United States, giving our defenses time to react.
Hypersonic missiles changed that equation.
These weapons travel at five times the speed of sound and follow unpredictable flight paths.
They compress America's warning time from hours to minutes.
Greenland's location cuts that warning time even further for America's East Coast — unless we have interceptors positioned there first.
The island ranks eighth in the world for rare earth reserves with 1.5 million tons.
Those minerals are essential for everything from fighter jets to smartphones.
China currently controls 90% of global rare earth production.
Beijing weaponized that monopoly before, cutting off exports to Japan during a territorial dispute.
Trump's not about to let China hold that kind of leverage over American defense contractors.
Bessent told the Davos crowd to calm down and let Trump make his case.
"I tell everyone, 'sit back, take a deep breath. Do not retaliate. Do not retaliate,'" Bessent said.
"The president will be here tomorrow and he will get his message across."
Since 1980, the United States spent $22 trillion more on defense than the rest of NATO combined.
That's roughly two-thirds of America's entire national debt.
Europe built schools and funded universal healthcare while American taxpayers defended them.
Now Trump's Treasury Secretary is telling European leaders they don't get a vote on American national security.
Denmark can't protect Greenland from Russia or China.
The United States already operates the military base there under a 1951 agreement.
Trump's not asking permission anymore.
He's telling Europe how it's going to be.
