Democrats and their media allies continuously demonize Ron DeSantis.
But he continues to get things done in the Free State of Florida.
And DeSantis just won a major concession from the “woke” mob.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has come under fire for rejecting an Advanced Placement (AP) African American Studies course from the College Board.
The course included all sorts of “woke” nonsense that had little to do with history.
The AP course had topics such as “Black Queer Studies,” “Intersectionality and Activism,” “Black Feminist Literary Thought,” and “The Reparations Movement.”
The course also included works from Kimberlé Crenshaw, who created the concept of intersectionality, and prison abolitionist Angela Davis, who literally ran for Vice President on the Communist Party USA platform.
The DeSantis administration argued the course violated Florida’s Stop WOKE Act.
Despite huffing and puffing from the Left, the College Board revised the course, and sent it back to DeSantis for approval.
DeSantis Press Secretary Bryan Griffin said that the administration is “currently reviewing the newly released AP African American Studies framework for corrections and compliance with Florida law.”
DeSantis tore the course to shreds prior to the revisions.
He explained, “They’re advocating things like abolishing prisons . . . Now that’s a radical political position . . . It’s not fair to say that somehow abolishing prisons is linked to black experiences, that that’s what black people want. I think they want law and order, just like anybody else wants law and order. So that is more ideology being used under the guise of history, and we want to do history.”
It’s not just Florida Republicans who are critical of the AP course.
Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor, a black Democrat, tore the course to shreds.
Proctor said, “Well, frankly I’m against the College Board’s curriculum. I think it’s trash. It’s not African American history. It is ideology . . . I’ve taught African American history, I’ve structured syllabuses for African American history. I am African American history. And talking about ‘queer’ and ‘feminism’ and all of that for the struggle for freedom and equality and justice has not been no tension with queerness and feminist thought at all.”
The course is very clearly far-left activism.
There are no black figures included in the course that counterbalance the hard-left advocacy.
Supposedly, the revised course includes “black conservatism” as a potential research project, but skepticism is warranted.
The activists on the College Board don’t want the writings of Thomas Sowell anywhere near this course.
