Democrats turned federal immigration enforcement into their latest enemy after the Minneapolis shooting.
One Democrat official made the biggest mistake of her career.
And Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal called ICE "fake law enforcement" and told agents "you don't want this smoke" before Kevin Bethel slapped her down.
Rochelle Bilal threatens to arrest ICE agents in viral rant
Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal stood in front of the cameras Thursday and delivered one of the most unhinged rants against federal law enforcement the country has seen.
She called ICE agents "fake, made-up law enforcement" and promised to arrest them if they operated in Philadelphia.
"No law enforcement professional wears a mask," Bilal declared at a press conference with District Attorney Larry Krasner.
She claimed ICE was "probably Trump's new army to attack citizens of the United States."
The rant got worse.
Bilal threatened federal agents with street talk that sounded more like a gang challenge than a law enforcement official.
"If any of them want to come in this city and commit a crime, you will not be able to hide. Nobody will whisk you off," Bilal warned.
"You don't want this smoke, because we will bring it to you."
She went even further by calling President Trump "the criminal in the White House" and claimed he couldn't protect ICE agents from her arrests.
The speech came after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good in Minneapolis during an immigration enforcement operation.
Federal officials said Good weaponized her vehicle and tried to run down agents.
Bilal took Good's side and accused the ICE agent of violating every professional law enforcement standard.
One post on X racked up 1.6 million views and more than 91,000 likes.
Florida Rep. Randy Fine responded to the video by saying Bilal "should be arrested."
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel sets the record straight
The backlash hit so fast that Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel sprinted to put out a statement.
His department got flooded with calls and emails from across the country asking what the hell was going on in Philadelphia.
Bethel's statement didn't mince words about who actually runs law enforcement in the city.
"The City of Philadelphia is policed by the Philadelphia Police Department, not the Philadelphia Sheriff's Office," Bethel wrote.
The sheriff's office handles court security, prisoner transport, and property sales — not policing, criminal investigations, or directing municipal law enforcement.
Bethel made it clear his department would continue working professionally with all law enforcement partners, including ICE.
"Clear lines of authority and accurate public representation of those roles are essential to maintaining public trust and effective public safety operations," Bethel stated.
The commissioner essentially told Bilal she has zero authority to arrest anyone or threaten federal agents.
Scandal-plagued sheriff's corruption record exposed
Bilal's tough talk about law enforcement rings hollow when you look at her record running the sheriff's office.
She took office in 2020 promising to clean up a scandal-ridden operation.
Instead, the corruption and incompetence only got worse.
The Philadelphia City Controller found that Bilal's office couldn't account for nearly 200 firearms.
Her former chief financial officer claimed she fired him for questioning "off-budget" spending he called a "slush fund."
Three staff members sued her for ignoring sexual harassment, asking employees to break the law, financial impropriety, and retaliation.
The FBI interviewed her staff about spending and management decisions, including payments for parties and a proposal to more than double her own salary.
Her campaign website got caught featuring 31 fake news headlines about her accomplishments that media outlets said they never published.
The Committee of Seventy, a government watchdog group, documented decades of corruption in the sheriff's office and called for it to be abolished entirely.
Bilal held a going-away party for her predecessor John Green before he went to federal prison for taking bribes.
This is the woman threatening to bring "smoke" to federal law enforcement.
Bilal's office can't find its own guns or manage basic financial records, but she wants Americans to believe she'll take on ICE.
The real law enforcement professionals in Philadelphia just told her to sit down and be quiet.
The Department of Homeland Security released data showing assaults against ICE agents jumped 1,300% in 2025.
Attacks using vehicles increased 3,200% and death threats against agents skyrocketed 8,000%.
Democrats like Bilal spent years demonizing immigration enforcement and now they're shocked when radical activists target federal agents.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel reminded everyone who actually protects the city.
And it's not the scandal-plagued sheriff running her mouth about smoke she can't deliver.
