Rob Reiner is one of the biggest liberals in Hollywood.

Reiner is one of the chief spokesmen for the creative class.

And Rob Reiner demanded Joe Biden drop out and no one saw coming what happened next.

Panic grows over Joe Biden’s debate performance

Joe Biden’s attempts to staunch the bleeding following his humiliating debate performance initially didn’t look like a success.

Biden went into hiding for days and only emerged to sit for a rambling interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.

Rob Reiner – who starred as Meathead in All in the Family and directed iconic films like The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men – erupted on social media.

Reiner claimed, without citing any evidence, that America would lose its Democracy if Donald Trump won and demanded Joe Biden step down.

“It’s time to stop f****** around. If the Convicted Felon wins, we lose our Democracy. Joe Biden has effectively served the U.S. with honor, decency, and dignity. It’s time for Joe Biden to step down,” Reiner wrote.

Reiner’s rant came after a rash of post-debate polling data from The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, CBS, and CNN showed Biden trailing Trump by as much as six points.

But 24 hours later, Reiner was singing a different tune.

Once Joe Biden made it clear he wasn’t going to willingly bow out of the race, Democrats needed to decide if they would unify around Biden or keep up the fight.

Reiner chose the former and claimed a strange interview on Morning Joe where Biden shouted that the polls were fake and bragged about his crowd sizes was enough to give him confidence that Biden could take the fight to Donald Trump.

“If we see the Joe Biden that appeared on Morning Joe today every day until Nov.5, he’ll be able to shut up people like me who think he should step aside,” Reiner posted.

Democrats go through similar evolution

Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) found himself going through the same process as Reiner.

Punch Bowl News’ John Bresnahan reported that Nadler was one of four prominent Democrats telling Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries that Biden needed to go.

“Reps. Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano, Don Beyer and Adam Smith said Biden should step aside as Democratic nominee during a private leadership call this afternoon. Most said Kamala Harris should be the nominee,” Bresnahan wrote on social media.

Forty-eight hours later, Nadler was back on board.

Like Reiner, Nadler realized Democrats only had two options, and keeping up the fight against Biden threatened to permanently cripple Biden’s campaign.

“Well, yeah. He [Biden] said he’s gonna remain in, he’s our candidate, and we’re all going to support him,” Nadler said in response to a reporter asking if Nadler still supported Biden as the nominee.

“Whether or not I have concerns is besides the point. He is going to be our nominee and we all have to support him,” Nadler added.

A reporter asked if Biden’s refusal to step aside made this all academic.

“Well, yes,” Nadler admitted.

“As the President said, something like 90% of Democrats voted for him in the Primaries, he won the nomination,” Nadler concluded.
