Americans already knew Washington, D.C. burned through taxpayer dollars like a drunk sailor on shore leave.
But nobody expected the number to be this staggering.

Rand Paul's Festivus Report reveals another year of jaw-dropping waste
Senator Rand Paul dropped his 10th annual "Festivus Report" this week and the numbers are enough to make any taxpayer's blood boil.
Paul documented a staggering $1,008,313,329,626.12 in government waste for 2024 alone.¹
That's over $1 trillion flushed down the toilet on everything from ice-skating drag queens to a $12 million Las Vegas pickleball complex.
"Last Festivus, we bemoaned the national debt nearing $34 trillion. In just a year, Washington's career politicians and bureaucrats have managed to push it beyond $36 trillion," Paul said.²
Both parties kept their hands in the cookie jar throughout 2024, voting for massive spending bills packed with subsidies for failing industries, endless Ukraine funding, and woke climate initiatives while American families got hammered by inflation.
Paul's report includes funding for drag queen shows, $4.8 million on Ukrainian influencers, and $20 million on a Sesame Street show for Iraqi children.³
The federal government spent $10 billion maintaining, leasing, and furnishing buildings that sit almost completely empty.⁴
The Department of State wasted $330,000 to fund censorship targeting conservative and non-liberal media outlets.⁵
That's your tax dollars being used to silence voices the radical left doesn't like.
Elon Musk and DOGE are ready to take action on Paul's findings
Paul has been fighting this battle for years, long before Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy launched the Department of Government Efficiency.
"As always, taking the path to fiscal responsibility is often a lonely journey, but I've been fighting government waste like DOGE before DOGE was cool," Paul stated in the report.⁶
But now Paul isn't fighting alone anymore.
The Kentucky Senator revealed he's been consulting weekly with DOGE and already handed Ramaswamy 2,000 pages documenting government waste he's uncovered.⁷
Musk's DOGE responded immediately to Paul's Festivus Report by highlighting the crisis facing America.
"Unless addressed, the U.S. Govt will add over $6.4 billion of debt every day for the next ten years, borrowing over $268 million every hour, $4.5 million every minute and $74,401 every second," DOGE warned on X.⁸
The timing couldn't be better with Donald Trump about to return to the White House.
Trump has given Musk and Ramaswamy a clear mission to slash $2 trillion from the federal budget by targeting waste, fraud, and unnecessary bureaucracy.
Paul's Festivus Report provides them with a detailed roadmap of where to start cutting.
From $419,470 spent studying whether lonely rats prefer cocaine more than happy rats, to $15.5 billion pushing Americans toward electric vehicles, the low-hanging fruit is everywhere.⁹
Paul put the crisis in perspective.
The biggest single line item was $892 billion in interest payments on the national debt for 2024 alone.¹⁰
That's money borrowed from countries like China just to pay interest on funds Washington couldn't afford to spend in the first place.

Washington's spending addiction finally faces real consequences
Paul has watched this disaster unfold for years while most colleagues in Congress kept voting for bigger budgets.
He even predicted House Speaker Mike Johnson would be "gone before D.C. gets warm again" for his role in pushing through bloated spending bills.¹²
The difference now is that Trump, Musk, and Ramaswamy are actually serious about cutting the waste Paul has been documenting all along.
DOGE has the momentum, the mandate, and the political will to take on Washington's spending addiction.
Paul's Festivus Report gives them the ammunition they need to start eliminating the fraud and waste that's been bankrupting America for decades.
For the first time in years, taxpayers have reason to hope their money might actually be spent wisely instead of wasted on drag shows, empty buildings, and studying rats on cocaine.
