Princess Diana made one bold prediction about Prince William that’s now coming true

Princess Diana had a gift for seeing the future.

The People’s Princess knew something special about her eldest son that others missed.

And Princess Diana made one bold prediction about Prince William that’s now coming true in ways that prove a mother’s instincts are never wrong.

Diana saw what others couldn’t about William

Back in June 1982, when Prince William was just a tiny baby, Princess Diana confided something remarkable to royal correspondent Jennie Bond.

Diana was only 21 years old.

Her marriage to Prince Charles was already showing cracks.

But she had complete faith in her newborn son’s future.

"As Diana once said to me: ‘William’s alright. The country is very lucky to have William,’" Bond revealed to the Mirror

Those weren’t just the words of a proud new mother.

They were prophetic.

"I think she was bang on," Bond said, looking back on that conversation decades later.²

Think about what Diana was seeing that others weren’t.

Here was a 21-year-old who was struggling to find her place in the royal family.

She was dealing with an unfaithful husband and the suffocating traditions of an ancient institution.

Yet somehow, she knew her baby boy would be different.

She knew he would connect with people in ways previous royals never had.

The numbers prove Diana right

Fast forward to today, and Diana’s prediction looks like pure genius.

A recent YouGov survey revealed that Prince William is the most popular royal in Britain.

Seventy-five percent of Brits view him positively.³

That’s not just good numbers for a royal.

That’s the kind of approval rating politicians would kill for.

Bond explained what makes William so different from previous generations of royals.

"Clearly, William is doing something very right," she said. "His informal, approachable way of going about his work is resonating with the public."⁴

But here’s what really sets William apart.

"Even the way he talks is different to previous generations," Bond noted. "He’s well spoken, of course, but not overly posh. He dresses well, of course, but is quite often wearing jeans and trainers."⁵

Can you imagine Queen Elizabeth II in jeans and trainers?

William poses for selfies with crowds.

He’ll even work the camera for flustered fans who can’t figure out their phones.

This is exactly the kind of down-to-earth royal Diana envisioned when she told Bond the country was "lucky" to have William.

William is giving the monarchy a "Diana reboot"

Royal author Edward White believes William is implementing what he calls a "Diana reboot of the monarchy."

And it’s happening exactly as Diana planned.

"Diana said that she was trying to raise a future king that would ensure the monarchy survived into the 21st century," White told the Mirror. "And William is trying to do a Diana reboot of the monarchy, combining the best of his mother and his grandmother."⁶

This wasn’t an accident.

Diana deliberately exposed William to the real world.

She took him to homeless shelters.

She showed him problems beyond palace walls.

Those experiences shaped the compassionate leader he is today.

William has embraced his mother’s passion for helping the homeless.

He launched his Homewards initiative in 2023.

He created the ITV documentary, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness.

The future king admits feeling "almost guilty every time I leave" after visiting with homeless individuals.⁷

That’s Diana’s influence right there.

She taught him that being royal means serving others, not just being served.

William plans to rule differently

During his 2024 trip to South Africa, William spelled out his vision for the future monarchy.

"I can only describe what I’m trying to do and that’s trying to do it differently and I’m trying to do it for my generation," he said. "I’m doing it with maybe a smaller r in the royal, if you like."⁸

A smaller "r" in royal.

That’s exactly what Diana wanted.

Less pomp and pageantry.

More real impact.

William’s approach will focus on "impact, philanthropy, collaboration, convening, and helping people" rather than traditional ribbon-cutting ceremonies.⁹

Royal insiders say William plans major changes when he becomes king.

He wants to streamline the monarchy.

Make it more relevant.

Cut through the stuffiness that has made royals seem out of touch.

Diana understood something that many royal watchers missed.

The monarchy’s survival didn’t depend on maintaining dusty traditions.

It depended on genuine connection with ordinary people.

As White explained Diana’s philosophy: "She seemed to think that if she wasn’t taking the most extreme course of action to remedy a problem, then she wasn’t actually taking any action at all."¹⁰

A mother’s instincts proved right

Bond emphasized why William’s popularity matters for the future of the monarchy.

"I don’t know whether the royals pay much attention to opinion polls, but they probably should," she said. "William himself has said that it is vital for the monarchy to stay relevant and in touch."¹¹

Diana would be incredibly proud to see her prediction come true.

She somehow knew that her baby boy would grow up to be exactly what Britain needed.

Not just another stuffy royal going through the motions.

But a leader who could bridge the gap between tradition and modernity.

Someone who could make the monarchy feel relevant to younger generations.

The country truly is "lucky" to have William, just as Diana predicted all those years ago.

Her vision for a more compassionate, connected monarchy lives on through the son she raised to be a different kind of king.

And the best part?

William is just getting started.
