Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship has taken a surprising twist.
That’s led to questions about what’s happening with the royal couple.
And Prince Harry broke his silence about divorcing Meghan Markle with this surprising answer.
Prince Harry addresses his increasing number of public appearances without his wife
Prince Harry and his wife, former D-list actress Meghan Markle, were inseparable in their personal and professional lives.
The couple worked in tandem for their various charity and business interests.
But lately, Harry and Meghan have been making an increasing number of solo appearances in public.
She showed up on the red carpet for the star-studded 2024 Paley Honors Fall Gala in Beverly Hills without her husband by her side.
Meghan was seen mingling with Hollywood director Tyler Perry during the event.
Royal insiders claimed that the couple were doing more solo appearances as they try to rehabilitate their images.
It naturally led to questions about what was going on with their relationship.
Harry appeared at The New York Times 2024 DealBook Summit in New York City where he was put on the spot about the status of his marriage by CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin.
“I Google News-ed you, and there were people fascinated by everything you’re doing, all the time. They’re fascinated by Meghan is in California right now, and you’re here,” Sorkin said, acknowledging Meghan’s Paley Honors event.
“And there’s articles left and right about, you know, ‘Why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren’t you doing them together?’” Sorkin added.
Harry broke the tension with a joke.
“Because you invited me, you should have known!” Harry quipped, which caused the audience to laugh.
Harry complains about the attention he and Meghan receive
Sorkin asked about the royal couple being on opposite sides of the country.
“Is that normal for you?” Sorkin asked. “The second there’s an article — she’s in California, you’re in New York — they say, ‘Well, what is happening with these two, right?’ Is that a good thing for you, in a way, that there’s so much interest in you?”
Harry fumed that it was a bad thing that there was so much interest in his life.
“Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?’” Harry exclaimed.
“It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls,” Harry continued. “Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”
The prince warned his appearance with Sorkin would be spun by the tabloids and the CNBC host could be the victim of the overactive imagination of the press.
“For that, I can only apologize, but you did invite me, so it’s not my fault,” Harry said.
Harry claimed he’s been a victim of the press his entire life.
“I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid,” Harry explained. “I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality. I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people.”
Harry and Meghan complain about the attention they receive but do everything in their power to put the spotlight on themselves as they try to be celebrities in California.
