Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent years crying about privacy and suing photographers.
The royal couple claimed they just wanted to be left alone.
But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just got blindsided by two words from the Kardashians.
Meghan and Harry showed up at Kris Jenner's 70th birthday bash over the weekend looking like they owned the place.
The party at Jeff Bezos' $165 million Beverly Hills mansion had everything these two supposedly wanted to avoid — photographers, social media posts, and maximum public exposure.
Hours after Jenner posted photos with the couple, something strange happened.
Both Jenner and her daughter Kim Kardashian quietly scrubbed Harry and Meghan from their Instagram accounts like they never existed.¹
Photos vanish without explanation after briefly appearing online
One minute the Duchess of Sussex was posing for pictures with Kim while Harry chatted in the background.
The next minute those images disappeared from the internet — or at least from the Kardashians' carefully curated Instagram feeds.
Jenner had included a photo of the royal couple alongside her in a carousel of party images before deleting it.²
Kim did the same thing with her snapshot featuring Meghan, even though she left up photos with Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber, and dozens of other celebrities who attended the James Bond-themed party.
The timing raises obvious questions.
Harry showed up wearing a poppy pin to honor Remembrance Day in the United Kingdom — the British equivalent of Memorial Day.³
Here's a guy who quit royal duties five years ago, moved 5,000 miles away, and spent years trashing his family in interviews and books.
Now he's wearing royal symbols to Hollywood parties while his family back in Britain actually serves.
The optics couldn't be worse.
British royal insiders told Page Six they were "appalled" to see images of Harry and Meghan mingling with the Kardashians at such an ostentatious display of wealth.⁴
"It truly shows that Harry is so far removed from the rest of the family," one insider explained. "These people may be stars in America, but the pure ostentatiousness is at odds with what Prince William is trying to do with his life and the monarchy."⁵
TMZ reported that multiple photos were deleted from the party — not just those featuring Harry and Meghan.⁶
Sources told the outlet the Kardashians thought it might be better to remove the images rather than push something that could get "misconstrued across the pond" since it was Remembrance Sunday.⁷
The couple's privacy hypocrisy reaches new levels
But here's what makes this whole situation ridiculous.
Harry and Meghan have spent the last five years filing lawsuits over privacy invasions.
They sued photographers for taking pictures of their son Archie in their backyard.
They sued British tabloids for publishing private letters.
Harry wrote an entire book complaining about media intrusion and lack of privacy.
The couple left royal life in 2020 specifically citing intrusive press coverage as one of their main reasons for fleeing to California.
Now they're showing up at the most photographed party in Hollywood, posing for pictures with reality TV stars, and getting their images plastered all over social media.
Then when those images disappear, nobody's explaining why.
Either Harry and Meghan asked the Kardashians to delete the photos because they didn't want the backlash from wearing royal symbols to a gaudy Hollywood bash.
Or the Kardashians decided on their own they didn't want to be associated with the toxic royal couple.
Neither option looks good.
Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told Newsweek that Harry and Meghan display an obsession with privacy while "constantly violating their own."⁸
That observation has never been more accurate than right now.
Earlier that evening, the couple made an appearance at the Baby2Baby Gala supporting their friend Serena Williams.
They walked in together looking perfectly comfortable in front of cameras at that charity event.⁹
A source told People magazine that Meghan was "glowing" in a black wrap-style dress and Harry looked "sharp in a tuxedo with a poppy for Remembrance Day."¹⁰
So they wanted photos at one charity event but apparently not at the Kardashian birthday party.
The selective privacy demands are getting harder to defend.
Tom Quinn's new book about royal life revealed that Meghan thought she was marrying into unlimited wealth when she wed Harry.
"She expected a billionaire and she got a millionaire," one royal staffer told Quinn about Meghan's disappointment when she learned Harry was only worth about $24 million.¹¹
That financial reality might explain why Harry and Meghan keep showing up at high-profile Hollywood events despite all their complaints about wanting privacy.
They need to maintain their celebrity status to keep the Netflix deals and book contracts flowing.
But they also want to control exactly which photos get published and which narratives get told about them.
That's not how privacy works in America.
You can't pose for pictures at star-studded parties hosted by billionaires and then demand those photos disappear when the optics turn bad.
The Kardashians deleting those images tells you everything you need to know about Harry and Meghan's standing in Hollywood right now.
Even reality TV stars who built their empire on manufactured drama want distance from the Sussex circus.
