Pramila Jayapal spent weeks calling ICE enforcement a "lawless reign of terror."
Now she's demanding your tax dollars be used to pay reparations to the illegal aliens ICE caught – while she voted to leave TSA workers without paychecks for 76 days.
She said it out loud, on camera, in a United States congressional hearing.
The Hearing That Should End Her Career
On March 27, 2026, Jayapal hosted a congressional hearing titled "Kidnapped and Disappeared: Trump's Attack on Children."
That's not a protest sign.
That's the official name of a United States House hearing.
At the conclusion of the hearing, Jayapal declared: "The people that have been inflicting this harm need to be prosecuted. They need to be brought before us, and they need to be held to account for the trauma that they have created – and we are going to have to have some form of reparation."

She wants ICE agents prosecuted for doing their jobs.
And she couldn't tell a single reporter how much her reparations program would cost, who would qualify, or where the money would come from.
This is what happens when Democrats run out of ideas but still need to fundraise.
The DHS Shutdown Nobody Is Talking About Enough
Jayapal voted against a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security on the same day she called for these reparations.
Her stated reason: Democrats would not give ICE "another cent" until the agency agreed to agents dropping their masks in the field and obtaining judicial warrants before entering private property – demands Republicans flatly rejected.
TSA workers went 76 days without full paychecks because of this standoff.
FEMA sat unfunded.
The Coast Guard operated in limbo.
Meanwhile, Jayapal was holding shadow hearings and demanding taxpayer reparations for people who entered the country illegally.

When the standoff finally ended in late April 2026, ICE received zero new appropriations funding.
Republicans had to route ICE money through the reconciliation process – the One Big Beautiful Bill Act – bypassing Democrats entirely.
So let's be precise about what Jayapal accomplished: she held TSA workers hostage for 76 days and ICE got funded anyway through a process she couldn't touch.
This Is Not a New Play
The Biden administration ran a version of this in 2021.
Federal departments were negotiating cash payments of $450,000 per person to migrant families affected by the Trump-era family separation policy at the border.
Republicans erupted.
Senator Bill Hagerty called it "jaw-dropping."
Senator Chuck Grassley tweeted: "We should not be paying anything to ppl who break our laws."
The payments were never made.
Jayapal watched that episode, took notes, and decided the problem was that Biden didn't go far enough.
Now she isn't floating a settlement tied to one specific policy – she wants a permanent reparations framework covering anyone who felt "traumatized" by ICE enforcement.

Every person in the country illegally who came into contact with an ICE agent gets to file a trauma claim against the American taxpayer for being caught.
What This Is Actually About
Jayapal was born in India and became a US citizen in 2000.
She currently serves as the ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement – and she was explicit about what happens if Democrats win back the majority: "If I am chair of the immigration subcommittee, we will be pursuing all of these pieces."
That's not a slip of the tongue.
That's a campaign platform.
Reparations for illegal immigrants is now a Democrat primary selling point in Seattle.
Jayapal knows this proposal goes nowhere under a Republican House.
She isn't trying to pass legislation.
She's trying to outflank her left flank, signal to progressive donors that she's still the most radical voice in the room, and build the résumé that gets her the subcommittee chair.
American workers who kept the airports running without paychecks for 76 days built nothing from it.
That's the Democrat Party in 2026.
