Remember when doctors swore removing healthy body parts from confused teenagers was life-saving medicine?
That house of cards just collapsed.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons – representing 92% of board-certified plastic surgeons in America – announced they cannot endorse gender surgeries on anyone under 19 because the science doesn't support it.
American Society of Plastic Surgeons Admits What Trump Administration Already Knew
Dr. Bob Basu, ASPS president, told Fox News they can't ignore the "irreversible nature" of these procedures anymore.
The evidence base is garbage.
Long-term outcomes? Unknown.
Mental health benefits? Can't prove them.
Potential harms? Emerging everywhere they look.
The surgeons cited two damning reports – the 2024 Cass Review from Britain and the 2025 HHS evidence review – both finding the same thing: study quality is trash, evidence of benefits virtually nonexistent, documentation of long-term effects missing.
"Based on what we see today, we cannot endorse gender-related surgical intervention in minors and adolescent patients, given the uncertainties that we've discovered," Basu said.
They've been experimenting on kids without knowing what would happen.
$2 Million Detransitioner Lawsuit Changed Everything
This announcement dropped one week after Fox Varian won a $2 million malpractice verdict against the psychologist and surgeon who approved her double mastectomy at 16.
The jury found both providers departed from standard of care – skipped critical evaluation steps, failed to communicate about her mental state, performed irreversible surgery on a healthy minor who later regretted it.
That verdict sent shockwaves through the medical community.
Twenty-eight more detransitioner lawsuits are working through courts nationwide.
Suddenly plastic surgeons are looking at their liability insurance premiums and realizing the "settled science" might cost them everything.
Medical Malpractice Fears Drive Major Policy Shift
The ASPS statement reveals something stunning: surgeons can't reliably predict which kids will persist in their gender confusion and which will resolve it naturally.
"Currently no validated methods allow clinicians to reliably distinguish children and adolescents whose distress will persist from those whose distress will resolve without medical or surgical intervention."
They've been guessing.
Rolling the dice with kids' futures.
The statement questions not just surgery but the entire pathway including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones – all of it rests on assumptions they can't validate.
Surgical outcomes can't be "confidently attributed to surgery itself rather than to prior medical treatment, psychosocial factors, or the natural trajectory of the condition."
They don't actually know if their interventions help or harm.
RFK Jr Celebrates Victory Over Gender-Affirming Care Industry
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. didn't hold back.
"We commend the American Society of Plastic Surgeons for standing up to the overmedicalization lobby and defending sound science," Kennedy said.
"By taking this stand, they are helping protect future generations of American children from irreversible harm."
Deputy HHS Secretary Jim O'Neill called it a "victory for biological truth in the Trump administration."
Dr. Mehmet Oz, running Medicare and Medicaid, compared these procedures to lobotomies.
"When the medical ethics textbooks of the future are written, they'll look back on sex-rejecting procedures for minors the way we look back on lobotomies."
This will go down as one of medicine's darkest chapters – the mass sterilization and mutilation of confused children in the name of progressive ideology.
How Activist Guidelines Replaced Real Science on Transgender Surgery
For years, activist organizations like the World Professional Association for Transgender Health pushed guidelines claiming gender surgeries were safe and effective for minors despite weak evidence.
Major medical groups parroted these claims.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, international bodies – all endorsed interventions they couldn't prove worked.
Europe started backing away.
Britain's Cass Review demolished the evidence base in 2024.
Sweden, Finland, Norway – all restricted youth gender medicine after finding the same problems.
American medical associations doubled down, insisting the science was settled even as it crumbled around them.
Now the plastic surgeons – the ones actually performing these irreversible procedures – are saying what everyone knew.
The ASPS statement notes that none of the leading U.S. clinical practice guidelines met "accepted criteria for high-quality, trustworthy clinical practice guidelines" – citing "limitations in developmental rigor, transparency, conflict of interest management, and the linkage between evidence certainty and strength of recommendations."
The guidelines pushing these surgeries were activist propaganda, not medicine.
Trump Administration Defunds Hospitals Performing Gender Surgery on Minors
The Trump administration already moved in December to cut off Medicare and Medicaid funding from hospitals performing gender procedures on minors.
Nearly half of all hospital revenue comes from those programs.
That funding threat is shuttering gender clinics across the country.
Combined with 27 state bans, the Varian malpractice verdict, and now plastic surgeons abandoning ship – the billion-dollar youth gender industry is collapsing.
Detransitioner advocate Chloe Cole, who's suing Kaiser Permanente after her own mastectomy at 15, called the developments "a huge leap for the detransitioner movement."
"Every doctor and clinic involved in this fad should be very afraid for what comes next," Cole said.
Between malpractice liability, federal funding cuts, state bans, and professional associations finally admitting the truth – doctors who carved up healthy children are running out of places to hide.
The ASPS chose age 19 because late adolescence still involves "ongoing neurocognitive, psychosocial, and identity development" – meaning the brain isn't done developing until the early 20s.
Something parents have known forever but doctors ignored when activists demanded access to teenagers.
Children can't consent to permanent sterilization.
Doctors can't prove these interventions help.
The evidence shows they cause harm.
And now, finally, the people wielding the scalpels are admitting it.
