The return of President-elect Donald Trump to the White House means that the press will suddenly be interested in doing their job after being asleep at the wheel for the last four years.
Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy was one of the few members of the White House press corps interested in doing his job under President Joe Biden.
Conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt slammed the media for ignoring the fact that Biden was no longer mentally competent to lead the country during a discussion with author Bethany Mandel.
“Bethany, with the exception of Peter Doocy, I would ban everyone from the White House press room who has been there for the past four years because they are obviously of no use to the country,” Hewitt said. “They didn’t tell us the number one thing, which is that [Biden] is not competent. Why in the world would Trump let them in?”
Mandel pointed out that the media is one of the rare careers where failure is constantly rewarded.
“It’s really disturbing and it’s funny because [CNN media analyst] Brian Stelter and all the columnists decree the trust that we should all have in the media, that we should all respect them and their hard work and sacrifice,” Mandel explained. “Can you imagine any other job in America where you could do your job that badly and still keep on failing up? The media is pretty much it.”
The media has begun to pay a price for its dishonesty and partisan bias after the election.
Ratings for CNN and MSNBC have cratered as even the network’s left-wing audience begins to abandon it.
Replace the White House press briefings with real journalists
Hewitt argued that the entire legacy media saw their job as to run cover for Biden.
“That’s because it’s not really failing in the eyes of the mainstream media,” Hewitt explained. “They’re not supposed to tell us when Democrats are incompetent. They’re supposed to go along with it because that’s the legacy media.”
He noted that The Wall Street Journal ran an in-depth piece highlighting how the White House staff have been covering for Biden’s mental decline since the day he took office.
“I mean ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, Washington Post, New York Times, those five brands are broken beyond broken after this expose. Is there any way you could trust anything that they say?” Hewitt asked.
Hewitt said that the entire White House press corps should be replaced.
“If you did a list . . . You could name people,” Hewitt said. “I can do everyone on the Commentary podcast, I can do Mary Katherine [Ham], Vic Matus, you can fill a press room with good reporters who will not go easy on Trump. I don’t go easy on Trump.”
