Your tax dollars have been funding lawyers who fight to keep illegal migrants in the country.
Now Pam Bondi just made that stop.
And what she just did to the program that made it all possible is something the left never saw coming.
The DOJ Program That Used Tax Dollars to Fight Its Own Deportation Orders
For over four decades, the Justice Department ran a program that certified and trained non-lawyer activists to represent illegal migrants in immigration court – against the very same department trying to deport them.
The Recognition and Accreditation program, created in 1983, handed federal certification to more than 850 nonprofit organizations.
Those organizations used that certification to fight deportation orders, appeal immigration denials, and help illegals establish legal standing they had no right to claim.
Groups like Catholic Charities and Jewish Family Services were involved.
So was the Immigration Project in Illinois – funded in part by Yield Giving, a philanthropic initiative founded by Mackenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos.
These weren't immigration attorneys.
The R&A program specifically trained non-lawyers and gave them legal standing to appear in immigration court.

By 2023, the program had grown into a sprawling network of public libraries, labor unions, DREAMer advocacy groups, domestic violence shelters, and faith-based organizations – all credentialed by the DOJ to help illegal migrants fight deportation.

This month, the senior DOJ attorneys who oversaw the R&A program were reassigned.
With no one left in the office qualified to approve or renew certifications, the program effectively ceased to function.
The DOJ says the program has not been formally eliminated – it exists in federal regulation – but without staff to process applications, it cannot operate.
The reassignments weren't an accident.
This is the same DOJ that hired 42 new immigration judges with enforcement backgrounds and killed the Legal Orientation Program, the Family Group Legal Orientation Program, and the Counsel for Children Initiative in the first weeks of Trump's second term.
Bondi has been systematically dismantling every mechanism the left built to slow deportations down.
The open-borders lobby is already panicking. Danielle DeWinter, legal director of the Immigration Project in Illinois, called the move something that is "going to cause serious problems within the immigration system."
Her organization alone had used the program to fight 948 deportation cases across Central and Southern Illinois.

She's worried her group's pending accreditation applications won't be approved.
She's right to worry.
Taxpayers Were Funding Both Sides of Their Own Deportation Cases
For years, the American left constructed an ecosystem designed to make deportation as difficult and expensive as possible.
They embedded activists inside the Justice Department's own certification structure.
They funded nonprofits with federal grants and billionaire money to clog immigration courts with appeals, motions, and delays.
Mackenzie Scott's money. Jeff Bezos's ex-wife. Bankrolling an organization in Illinois fighting 948 deportation cases against the federal government – while the federal government simultaneously funded the training program that gave that organization its legal standing in court.
American taxpayers were paying both sides of their own deportation cases.
Bondi just ended that arrangement.
The R&A program is one piece of a coordinated shutdown.
Since January 2025, the Trump DOJ has terminated legal orientation programs serving tens of thousands of detained immigrants annually and directed states, cities, and nonprofits to stop using federal grant funds to provide legal services to removable aliens.
Every legal delay mechanism the open-borders left assembled over 40 years – Bondi is dismantling it one piece at a time.
The activists screaming about "serious problems" today are right.
It is going to be a serious problem for anyone who spent the last decade helping people who broke our laws stay in the country.
That's exactly the point.
