Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was the biggest winner in the Midterm elections.
That’s leading to intense speculation about his political future.
And one group’s 2024 plans just forced Ron DeSantis to make this surprising announcement.
In an otherwise dreary night, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s landslide reelection exceeded all expectations.
DeSantis shocked everyone by winning by nearly 20 points in what was considered one of the top swing states in the country.
While the expected “red wave” missed most of the country, Florida Republicans had the best election performance in their history.
Fresh off of a dominating win, speculation grew about whether DeSantis would carry his momentum into the 2024 Presidential election.
After a wildly successful first term as Governor, DeSantis built a massive following of grassroots conservatives across the country.
While DeSantis hasn’t publicly stated any decision on running for President, one group is already pushing for him to jump into the race.
A super PAC named Ron to the Rescue is preparing to run $5.5 million worth of television ads to tout DeSantis as Presidential candidate in Iowa.
The Iowa caucuses are the first contest in the 2024 GOP Presidential Primary and a key early test of a candidate’s strength.
Ron to the Rescue was created by Republican strategist John Thomas to lay the groundwork for a potential presidential run by DeSantis.
“We couldn’t be more proud to support Ron DeSantis 100% as our nation desperately needs strong, battle-tested leadership,” Thomas told Fox News Digital.
Under federal campaign finance, super PACs aren’t allowed to communicate or coordinate with political candidates.
“The intention of our group is to lay the groundwork and harness the energy for Ron DeSantis so that he may hit the ground running if and when he decides to officially run,” Thomas continued. “Since the Governor is not a candidate for President at this time, we’ve stepped up to the plate to advocate and organize Americans who feel passionately that we need Ron DeSantis leading our nation.”
Thomas explained that because of former President Donald Trump’s Presidential announcement that they needed to step in and boost DeSantis.
Now Governor DeSantis’ legal team is warning that they have nothing to do with the efforts of the Ron to the Rescue PAC.
Benjamin Gibson, an attorney for DeSantis, sent a letter to DeSantis’ donors that said he “recently learned through media reports that a super PAC apparently named ‘Ron to the Rescue’ (‘PAC’) is being formed reportedly ‘in order to boost a potential 2024 presidential run from Governor Ron DeSantis.’ This is similar to other ‘pro-DeSantis’ PACs that have formed and continue to use Ron DeSantis’ name and likeness to raise funds without his permission or authorization.”
DeSantis has no control over other political groups using his name and likeness.
“Whether well intentioned or not, the organizers of these PACs have not been in contact with DeSantis leadership and such efforts may create confusion amongst supporters of the Governor and his policies,” Gibson wrote.
Ron DeSantis’s decision about running is going to be the biggest question hanging over the 2024 Republican Presidential Primary.
