Kate Barr isn't hiding what she's doing – she's bragging about it.
In a podcast interview that went viral this week, Barr confessed she's a "progressive" running in North Carolina's 14th Congressional District Republican primary despite being fundamentally opposed to everything the GOP stands for.
"I am running in the Republican primary, but I am not a Republican, I am a progressive," Barr declared on "The Hometown Holler" podcast.
When asked directly if she's trying to trick voters, she doubled down with stunning arrogance.
"If you go on the campaign website, above the fold as they call it, is like, 'I'm not a real Republican,'" she claimed, insisting she's "telling people the truth."
She says she knocks on doors and announces: "I am not a Republican, I am a progressive."
That's supposed to make this acceptable.
Barr filed paperwork last November to challenge incumbent Rep. Tim Moore, the Republican representing the district.
Her entire justification for this political Trojan horse maneuver rests on one claim – Republicans "rigged the maps" through gerrymandering, so she's entitled to infiltrate their primary.

Barr claims Republicans have created a system where they "come out victors every time," so her infiltration is somehow justified as the "only way to kick these corrupt cowards out of office."
The irony is staggering.
Democrats spent the last four years screaming about election integrity, claiming Trump supporters were undermining democracy with conspiracy theories about rigged elections.
Now Barr runs a political infiltration operation designed to subvert the Republican primary process – and expects praise for her "honesty."
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Barr reiterated she's been "honest" about her intentions "from the start."
"Tim Moore is terrible for the voters of district 14," Barr continued, attacking the Republican incumbent she's trying to replace through deception.
"He's getting rich off of his position while voters struggle. And Tim rigged this district to make sure he'd stay in office despite it all."
Her argument boils down to this: Republicans drew maps I don't like, so I'm entitled to fake my party affiliation and trick Republican primary voters.

"It's her whole schtick, and it's front and center on her campaign website," Edwards noted, suggesting transparency somehow excuses the tactic.
That's where Edwards gets it wrong.
Yes, Barr is being "honest" about her progressive identity – on her website and in podcast interviews that most Republican primary voters will never see.
But when she knocks on doors in a deeply Republican district and tells voters "I'm running in the Republican primary," how many hear the rest of that sentence?
How many elderly Republican voters, seeing her name on the ballot with an "R" next to it, will assume she shares their values?
This isn't transparency – it's a loophole exploitation dressed up as honesty.

Now they openly celebrate tactics designed to sabotage opponents from within.
Barr justifies her infiltration by claiming Republicans "rigged" the district through redistricting – a process Democrats engage in just as aggressively when they control state legislatures.
But even if her gerrymandering complaints were valid, the solution isn't to fake your party affiliation and infiltrate your opponents' primary.
The solution is to win elections, take control of the legislature, and draw maps yourself – which is exactly what Democrats do in states like Maryland and Illinois.
What makes Barr's approach particularly insidious is that it exploits Republican voters' good faith assumption that candidates running in their primary share their fundamental values.
Democrats used to at least compete in Republican districts by moderating their positions and appealing to crossover voters in the general election.
Now they're skipping that step entirely and attempting to hijack the primary process itself.

Primary elections exist to allow party members to choose candidates who represent their values and policy priorities.
Barr openly admits she shares neither Republican values nor policy priorities – yet expects Republican voters to hand her their nomination anyway.
The question for North Carolina's 14th District Republicans is simple: Do you want someone who shares your values representing you in Congress, or do you want to reward someone who's openly gaming your primary system?
Barr's already provided the answer about what she believes.
Now Republican voters get to provide their answer at the ballot box.
