Remember when Democrats told you sanctuary cities made everyone safer?
Now an 8-year-old Jewish girl is recovering from skull surgery because a serial rock-thrower they protected fractured her head with a baseball-sized rock.
And New Jersey's brand-new governor won't say a single word about it.
The Criminal Illegal Immigrant Democrats Kept On The Streets
Hernando Garcia-Morales threw a rock through a school bus window on January 7.
The rock hit a third-grader in the head and fractured her skull.
The little girl needed emergency surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center.
She was coming back from a field trip when this monster attacked her bus on the New Jersey Turnpike.
The bus belonged to Yeshivat Noam, a Jewish day school.
Garcia-Morales is a 40-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico who entered the country at an unknown date and location – because Biden's open border made tracking impossible.
DHS says he was arrested for burglary in 2023 and for weapon possession and theft back in 2006.
Bergen County records show eight complaint warrants just for throwing rocks, plus 21 additional charges including aggravated assault on law enforcement officers.
He threw rocks at police officers multiple times in 2025 and kept evading capture.
On January 9 – two days after he fractured that little girl's skull – State Police finally arrested him for aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and weapon possession.
ICE immediately lodged a detainer against him.
Every single time New Jersey law enforcement caught him before, sanctuary policies helped him avoid deportation.
Mikie Sherrill's Deafening Silence On ICE Detainer
Fox News asked New Jersey's newly inaugurated Democratic Governor Mikie Sherrill about this attack.
She refused to comment.
Her spokesperson referred Fox News to Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport's office instead.
Sherrill was sworn in on January 20 – the same day this story broke nationally.
She's made time to go on The Daily Show and tell New Jerseyans to film ICE agents.
She's announced plans for a state database where people can upload videos of ICE operations.
She's compared ICE to secret police forces she supposedly saw when she served in the Navy.
But she can't find 30 seconds to condemn the monster who fractured an 8-year-old girl's skull?
The attorney general's office gave Fox News standard Democrat talking points about how New Jersey law "allows for cooperation with ICE in regard to anyone charged with a violent crime."
That's bureaucratic garbage designed to hide what really happened here.
Garcia-Morales had eight warrants for throwing rocks before he put a third-grader in the hospital.
New Jersey's sanctuary policies tied law enforcement's hands every single time.
And now a little girl has a fractured skull and surgical scars because Democrats valued protecting illegal criminals over protecting American children.
The Sanctuary City Pattern Democrats Don't Want You To See
This isn't an isolated incident.
In December 2025, Washington sanctuary politicians refused to honor a detainer for Juan Hernandez-Santos, who caused a multi-vehicle crash – including with a school bus – in Lacey, Washington.
In San Diego, Hector Balderas-Aheelor killed an 11-year-old boy in a hit-and-run on Thanksgiving morning.
In Virginia, Fairfax County sanctuary politicians released Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortez – who murdered a resident inside his home in Reston just one day after they let him go.
Trump's DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said Garcia-Morales "should have never been in this country, let alone released after multiple arrests into New Jersey communities."
She called attacking a school bus full of children "extremely wicked and heinous."
But Sherrill won't say any of that because she's too busy setting up websites for New Jerseyans to spy on ICE agents.
Sherrill Chose New Jersey Sanctuary State Policies Over Safety
During her campaign, Sherrill spoke at a New Jersey Policemen's Benevolent Association event and bragged: "I am a federal prosecutor. I'm the only one in this race who's actually deported people for breaking the law."
That was campaign talk.
Now she's governor, and she's kept Phil Murphy's sanctuary directive in place – the same policy that protected Garcia-Morales through multiple arrests.
The Immigrant Trust Directive restricts state law enforcement from cooperating with ICE unless federal law requires it.
It prohibits local police from asking about immigration status.
It creates policies for schools, hospitals, and shelters that prioritize making illegal immigrants "feel safe" over protecting American citizens.
Sherrill told The Daily Show she won't allow ICE raids "to be staged from state properties."
She's instructing New Jerseyans to "get your phone out" when they see ICE agents.
She appointed an acting attorney general who's defending sanctuary policies in federal court right now against Trump administration lawsuits.
The attorney general's office claims "nothing in New Jersey's state laws would have prevented New Jersey law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration officials to deport Mr. Garcia-Morales."
Technically true – and completely misleading.
The sanctuary directive creates so many bureaucratic restrictions that local law enforcement can't effectively work with ICE even when they want to.

If New Jersey had been cooperating with ICE the way states are supposed to, he would have been deported years ago.
Instead, he was free to terrorize communities until he finally put a third-grader in the hospital.
And New Jersey's governor won't even acknowledge it happened.
