Adam Sandler has starred in some of the most beloved comedies of all time.

But his movies have mostly missed Hollywood’s sequel craze.

Now Netflix confirmed that this Adam Sandler classic is getting its long-awaited sequel.

Happy Gilmore 2 has officially gotten the green light from Netflix

The 1996 comedy classic Happy Gilmore is one of the most popular movies of comedian Adam Sandler’s career.

He played an angry hockey player who discovers he has a talent for golf with hilarious results.

Somehow in sequel-obsessed Hollywood, a follow-up to the golfing comedy never got made.

Now a Happy Gilmore sequel has officially been confirmed by streaming service Netflix.

“Happy Gilmore is back! Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand new movie coming to Netflix,” Netflix wrote on X.

Sandler shared a video of him golfing on the PGA Tour’s X account.

“It’s been 25 years since I’ve done this,” Sandler said.

Sandler walked over to the tee for a drive.

“Let’s see what happens, I’m scared!” Sandler continued. “Shooter McGavin this is for you… that went pretty well, you’re dead Shooter!”

Shooter McGavin was Happy Gilmore’s nemesis in the movie played by Christopher McDonald.

McDonald let the cat out of the bag in March during an interview with a Cleveland radio station that Sandler was working on a script for the film.

Sandler has had a movie deal with Netflix since 2015.

Some of the cast is coming back for Happy Gilmore 2

No details have been announced about when Happy Gilmore 2 is expected to be released or how many members of the original cast are coming back.

Some names have been confirmed though.

Christopher McDonald seems all but certain to be back as Shooter McGavin.

Sandler was interviewed by sports talk radio show host Dan Patrick in April about what was going on with the film.

Partick will have a small role in it.

Some of the original cast has passed away like Price is Right host Bob Barker and actors Carl Weathers and Joe Flaherty.

Sandler said that he wanted to get new Price is Right host Drew Carey in the film.

“When we were writing stuff, Bob (Barker) was alive,” Sandler said at the time. “When we were writing stuff, Carl Weathers was alive. When we were writing stuff, Joe Flaherty was alive. It sucks. We love those guys. They’re such a big part of the movie and just great people. But we’re going to get them involved. Somehow, they’ll be involved.”

Weathers played Derrick “Chubbs” Peterson, Happy’s coach, and Flaherty played a fan who heckles Happy.

Sandler said that he was still working on the script in the April interview with Patrick.

“I’m shooting this movie now, and then when I get home in a little while, I call up Herlihy, we get in a room and jam and jam and jam,” Sandler said. “We’ve been jamming and writing. We have a million ideas already. We’ve just got to make it a movie and make sure we’re excited about people enjoying it.”

Tim Herlihy co-wrote the original movie with Sandler.

Fans can look forward to seeing Happy Gilmore tee off once again.
