It was inevitable for the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial to elicit some over-the-top reactions.
As expected, talking heads and politicians especially have gone out of their way to make some rather ridiculously extreme statements.
Though none come close to the absurdity of Nancy Pelosi actually thanking George Floyd for dying in this bizarre press conference.
Nancy Pelosi has a long, documented history of making some rather ridiculous comments throughout her four decades-long political career.
For example, just last week, she claimed to be a “street fighter” who could have fought off rioters at the Capitol, if given the chance, and that’s merely the tip of the iceberg.
So it should come as no surprise that Pelosi has once again made headlines for saying something that is universally considered absurd.
Speaking at a press conference on Capitol Hill alongside members of the Congressional Black Caucus after Chauvin was found guilty, Pelosi looked to the sky and thanked George Floyd for dying.
“So again, thank you George Floyd, for sacrificing your life for justice,” said Pelosi.
“For being there to call out to your mom, how heartbreaking was that? To call out to your mom, ‘I can’t breathe,'” she continued. “But because of you, and because of thousands, millions of people around the world, who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice.”
On top of that, Pelosi also claimed during her remarks that Floyd’s name is “synonymous with justice, and dignity, and grace, and prayerfulness – and prayerfulness.”

Obviously, Pelosi’s insane comments didn’t sit well with virtually anyone on either side of the political aisle.
Nancy Pelosi is wrong. George Floyd didn't sacrifice his life. That's what heroes do. Instead, he was killed in the commission of a crime and while resisting arrest. Yes, the cop that had his knee on his neck was absolutely wrong. That doesn't make George a hero.

Nancy Pelosi’s comment was insane on multiple levels. Not only did George Floyd not sacrifice his life at all, he was murdered, but she said he sacrificed it for justice— what was the justice? She thinks he opted to die just so a cop could go to jail for it?

After hearing Nancy Pelosi's comments on George Floyd, my only political opinion is that we should stop electing really old people to office and enforce term limits.

After receiving ample criticism for her comments, Pelosi – or rather, the political operatives who actually run her social media accounts – crafted a new statement in order to attempt to clarify her comments and extinguish the firestorm she caused.
George Floyd should be alive today. His family’s calls for justice for his murder were heard around the world. He did not die in vain. We must make sure other families don't suffer the same racism, violence & pain, and we must enact the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicing Act. https://t.co/tWln9NRg1g

No matter how hard Nancy Pelosi tries to walk back that statement, the Internet is forever, and her comments will be brought back up again and again as the years go on.
However you look at it, though, there is no doubt that Nancy Pelosi sounds like an absolute crazy person when you hear her thank George Floyd for dying.
It’s one of those situations where it’s once again made abundantly clear that Pelosi has lived inside the Washington, D.C. bubble for far too long.
This certainly isn’t a mistake that will cost her in her next election, mainly because she represents San Francisco, but it is further proof that she’s incredibly out-of-touch with the real world.
