Establishment Republicans balk at some of Donald Trump’s nominees
President-elect Donald Trump was given a mandate from voters to bring change to the Washington, D.C. Swamp.
He became the first Republican to win the popular vote since 2004 and had the biggest Electoral College for a GOP candidate since the 1988 Election.
Trump is in the process of nominating members of his administration who will need to be confirmed by the Senate next year.
Some of his nominations like former Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as Attorney General, former Representative Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) as Director of National Intelligence, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Director of Health and Human Services have received pushback from the Republican establishment.
They want Trump’s second term to be business as usual in the Swamp.
Republican Senators are already plotting to kill Gaetz’s nomination.
RINO U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) have announced that they plan to vote against him.
More Senate RINOs allegedly oppose him privately.
Trump’s first major battle against the Swamp next year could be over the fate of some of his nominations.
Conservative Senator tells his colleagues to get on board with Trump’s nominee
U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) told his Senate Republican colleagues to support Gaetz and Trump’s other nominees or face the consequences during an appearance on The Evening Edit on Fox Business.
“President Trump and J.D. Vance are going to be running the Senate,” Tuberville told host Elizabeth MacDonald.
“So, will Matt Gaetz get the votes in the Senate?” MacDonald asked.
“I don’t know,” Tuberville stated. “You’re finding all the ‘Swamp’ creatures coming out right now. Everybody’s got an opinion up here. But at the end of the day, President Trump was elected by an enormous vote, and he deserves a team around him that he wants. It’s not us to determine that. We’ve got 53 votes in the Senate. We can confirm with 51.”
Vice President-elect J.D. Vance can serve as the tie-breaking vote to confirm Trump’s nominees if they get 50 votes in the Senate.
“I’ve already seen where a couple says, ‘I’m not voting for him,’” Tuberville said. “Wait a minute. You are not the United States of America. You have one vote in the U.S. Senate. You did not get elected the President. Vote with President Trump. This is the last chance we’re gonna have of saving this country. And if you wanna get in the way, fine. But we’re gonna try to get you out of the Senate, too if you try to do that.”
Trump has indicated that he could use recess appointments for some of his cabinet nominees by appointing them when the Senate isn’t in session.
Establishment Republicans are willing to wage war against Matt Gaetz and other nominees who are going to shake up the system.
Donald Trump could be squaring off with them next year to get the people he wants in his administration.
