Mitch McConnell had some strong words for Donald Trump and it’s sure to reignite their rivalry

Even when they tried to pretended they liked each other, it was evident Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell could barely stand to be in the same room.

Since Trump has left office, the tensions have grown, though for the most part they’ve remained in their own corners.

But recently, Mitch McConnell had some strong words for Donald Trump and it’s sure to reignite their rivalry.

Colleagues are about all Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump were to each other and even that seemed to be a stretch at times.

McConnell has always been a moderate Republican and he had no use for Trump’s aggressive, “tell it like it is” behavior.

Trump, on the other hand, couldn’t stand McConnell’s sometimes wishy-washy mediocre attitude.

Now McConnell is warning the Republican Party that staying in former President Donald Trump’s lane will not lead to a viable political future.

According to an excerpt from the forthcoming Peril by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, McConnell is encouraging the GOP to move away from Trumpism.

Woodward and Costa’s new book contains a multitude of explosive details about Trump’s last days in office and the revelation of Mitch McConnell wanting to get away from Donald Trump should surprise no one, but it’s sure to irk the former President.

McConnell refers to Trump as “a fading brand or a Retired OTTB as they say in Kentucky – off-the-track Thoroughbred.”

But according to the book, the current Senate Minority Leader wasn’t done yet.

“There is a clear trend moving. Sucking up to Donald Trump is not a strategy that works,” McConnell said.

The release of this information comes on the heels of reports that Donald Trump is trying to get McConnell removed from his leadership position in the Senate.

Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump will never be friends, occasional allies depending on the issue perhaps, but never friends.

The deep loathing of each other is evident in everything they say, and, unlike McConnell, Trump isn’t going to kowtow to the establishment or the Democrats for that matter.

Americans will have to wait and see if rumors of a takeover in the Senate by Trump loyalists plays out.

One never knows what Donald Trump has up his sleeve.
