Mike Pence was popular with Trump’s base during their time in office.
After he certified the Electoral College results though, some Trump supporters soured on the Vice President, leaving many to wonder if Pence’s political career was ruined.
But Mike Pence’s political future looks a lot brighter after he saw these numbers.
D.C. insiders say if Donald Trump does not run for President in 2024, Mike Pence certainly will.
The big question is, does he have the ability and popularity to succeed?
Many establishment Republicans lashed out at Pence for defending Trump.
And Mike Pence left the office of the Vice President without much of a political base.
Recently, a hypothetical GOP primary race poll was conducted by Echelon Insights, and to the surprise of many, Pence landed in first place with 21 percent.
Not so surprisingly, Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis rounded out the top three, both of whom have obvious Presidential ambitions.
“While 55 percent of Republican-leaning voters say they’d vote for Trump if the Republican primaries were being held today, respondents were also asked who they’d vote for if the former President chose not to run again. Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis both seem to be possible contenders for 2024, but former Vice President Mike Pence more than doubles them both with a stable hold on 21 percent of the vote,” Mediate reported.
The 21 percent is likely because, as Vice President, Pence built up a bit of name recognition over the last four years.
One question many have is can he win over the skeptics in the establishment.
But an even bigger question is will he gain the supporter of Trump supporters.
Many Donald Trump supporters have questioned Pence’s relationship with him for years, and that could definitely hurt him.
Should Trump choose not to run in 2024, it will leave the GOP nomination wide open.
Some experts say Pence is likely an ideal candidate given he was largely loyal to President Trump and can appeal to swing voters.
Pence even went so far recently to make a statement about his relationship with Trump assuring Trump supporters of his good rapport with the former President.
If polls remain the same, it looks like Pence definitely has a leg up on the competition.
