Over the past year, the Black Lives Matter movement has grown exponentially.
As such, the national Black Lives Matter organization has seen donations to their cause skyrocket, with tens of millions of dollars going to the organization’s coffers in 2020 alone.
And because of that, the family of Mike Brown and Ferguson protest organizers are demanding the group pay them an exorbitant amount of money.
Back in 2014, Ferguson, Missouri became the epicenter of racial unrest after Mike Brown Jr. was shot in self-defense by a white police officer.
Rioters took to the streets, destroying the city in the process.

But from those events, the Black Lives Matter movement saw exponential growth that propelled the national Black Lives Matter organization into a cash cow.
In fact, just last year, in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter organization received more than $90 million in donations.
And now, the family of Mike Brown Jr. and those who organized the Ferguson riots are demanding the organization gives them $20 million.
“Mike Brown Sr. and local community organizer Tony Russell have demanded the Black Lives Matter organization provide $20M to continue their work in Ferguson, Missouri,” Yahoo! News reported earlier this week.
Although his son’s death helped give rise to Black Lives Matters, Mike Brown Sr. says his family has received next to nothing from the BLM organization.
“According to the Twitter thread, Brown Sr. has only received $500 from any BLM affiliated group since his son’s 2014 killing, despite being a community figure who organizes and supports other families in healing and empowerment,” Yahoo! noted.
Mike Brown Sr. and Tony Russell appeared together in a social media video in which they made their desires known.

“On behalf of many activists in the St. Louis area, I’m joined by Mike Brown Sr., the father of Mike Brown Jr. Today, we hold Black Lives Matter accountable,” Russell said.
The BLM organization has only recently revealed a snapshot into their finances, which showed that despite taking in over $90 million last year, they ended the year with a balance of more than $60 million.
Those facts have not only caused the Brown family and those in Ferguson to question where the money is actually going, but also caused many BLM chapters across the country to demand transparency from the organization, according to Yahoo.
This reckoning between the BLM organization and those they’re supposed to be working to support has been a long time coming.
Even before BLM revealed a snapshot into their financials last month, many activists and community organizers have questioned how the organization was using the money it was receiving.
With Mike Brown Sr. now leading the charge, it’s likely that even more people will come forward demanding a portion of the funds Black Lives Matter is currently keeping to themselves.
Whether or not Black Lives Matter is willing to be transparent or spread their funds around is the question.
