When production staff suggested Cheryl Hines – David's on-screen wife for 12 seasons – for a role, the Daily Mail reports Michelle Obama went "absolutely ballistic."
"We cannot and will not have that woman on this show," Obama reportedly declared. "She's not one of us."
The Crime Was Being Married to a Cabinet Secretary
Hines didn't endorse Trump.
She didn't attack the Obamas.
She did exactly one thing that made her untouchable: she stayed married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as Trump's Secretary of Health and Human Services.
That's it.
That's the whole offense.
Sources told the Daily Mail that Obama "commanded that Kennedy's wife be banned from the cast because she's now all-MAGA, all the time" – and privately described RFK Jr. as "a turncoat to the Democratic party and a verifiable whack job."
Hines isn't even a Republican.

She calls herself an Independent.
She publicly condemned her husband's 2022 Holocaust comparison as "reprehensible and insensitive."
None of it mattered.
Obama's executive producer status meant her word was final.
"Banning Cheryl was a command from Michelle that Larry could not go against," one insider told the Daily Mail. "Michelle's the boss. And you don't cross the boss."

Documentary after documentary about the writers and actors shut out of work in the 1940s and 50s for their political associations – not for what they personally believed, but for who they knew and which circles they moved in.
Yale professor Ralph Brown estimated 10,000 people lost jobs during that era.
The industry called it a shameful chapter and spent decades proving it learned its lesson.
Now the people producing those apology films are running the same playbook.
Hines hasn't spoken to Larry David – the man who introduced her to Kennedy – since their Curb Season 12 premiere in January 2024.
Last November, sitting across from Bill Maher on his Club Random podcast, she described losing friends over her marriage.

Maher called it what it is: a blacklist.
She told the Times of London that Hollywood's message to her has been clear: we're inclusive, we like everybody – except you, because of who you're married to.
The Company Called Higher Ground
Michelle Obama launched Higher Ground Productions in 2018, naming it after her 2016 Democratic National Convention declaration: "When they go low, we go high."
She said those words to a national audience as a moral standard.
Then she reportedly used the company bearing that name to blacklist an actress for her marriage.
Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness currently holds a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Hollywood Reporter essentially panned it – writing that "in another 250 years, give or take, I should be ready for another season."
Maybe leaving out the one actress who spent 12 years perfecting the chemistry that made the original show work wasn't the win Michelle Obama thought it was.
