Michelle Obama Called America Janky on the IMO Podcast
The former first lady appeared Wednesday on her podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, alongside comedian Hasan Minhaj.
Minhaj built his entire career on autobiographical stories of racism and Islamophobia he later admitted he fabricated.
His own description of his act: "70% emotional truth – and then 30% hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction."
The woman who lived in the White House for eight years chose him as her sounding board on the state of America.
Obama told Minhaj the country goes through "versions," and that the current one is "janky."
Minhaj asked permission to curse.
She said yes.
He obliged enthusiastically.
Obama then explained what gives her hope in this janky America: the resistance to Trump's deportation operations in Minnesota.

She called it "powerful stuff."
Translation: a former First Lady of the United States, on a podcast with a proven fabulist, is celebrating organized resistance to federal immigration law – and calling the country that handed her a Harvard Law degree and a mansion on Pennsylvania Avenue broken and defective.
Michelle Obama Has Been Attacking Trump for Over a Year
This isn't a slip.
It's a pattern.
Obama skipped Trump's inauguration in January 2025 – then spent months on her podcast reframing that decision as a personal act of courage rather than a political tantrum.
She went on Jimmy Kimmel in December 2025 and attacked Trump through a racial lens, suggesting Black families are held to higher standards of conduct than he ever was.
She released a book about her wardrobe – The Look – while describing the country that made her a global icon as fundamentally broken.
And now she's co-signing a comedian whose own daughter, according to The New Yorker, was never actually exposed to anthrax – even though Minhaj told audiences she was, on stage, for years, until he got caught.
That's the intellectual company she keeps.
What Michelle Obama Left Out About the Minnesota Deportations
Obama praised the Minnesota response as proof of what communities can do to "protect one another."
Here's what actually happened: Trump deployed federal agents to enforce immigration law against criminal illegal aliens.
The operations met organized obstruction.
Obama is celebrating the obstruction.
In her telling, the "janky" part of America is the part where the federal government does its job.
The people running those operations aren't janky.
The laws they enforced aren't janky.
The 80 million Americans who voted for this exact policy aren't janky.
Michelle Obama Has Made Millions From the Country She Just Called Janky
Michelle Obama positioned herself for eight years as someone above politics – the one who said "when they go low, we go high."
That was always a costume.
She campaigned hard against Trump in 2024, calling him unfit and morally disqualifying.
And now she's calling your country janky while sitting on the wealth that country built for her.
Harvard.
Princeton.

A Netflix production deal.
Higher Ground Productions.
That's what a janky country gave her.
She said it herself: "We haven't been this janky for a while."
That line tells you everything.
She's not worried about America.
She's furious that the America she thought she'd reshaped is being reshaped by someone else – and she's out of moves except to call it broken from a podcast studio.
Calling it janky isn't analysis.
It's a woman who got everything this country offers, sitting next to a man who lied about his own family to advance his career, telling you the problem is your values.
