Democrats hilariously claim they’re the defenders of democracy.
But they undercut democratic norms every chance they get.
And Merrick Garland’s response to the Roe v. Wade decision has some on the Right accusing him of treason.
The Department of Justice has been weaponized to an alarming degree.
Attorney General Merrick Garland has authorized Stasi-like raids on Donald Trump associates, journalists, and parents showing up at school board meetings.
Now Garland is openly defying the Supreme Court.
After the high court reversed Roe V. Wade and returned the abortion question to the states, Garland—the head of the DOJ—wrote in a statement, “The Justice Department strongly disagrees with the court’s decision…This decision deals a devastating blow to reproductive freedom in the United States…It is a right that women have relied on, and are continuing to rely on…If precedent means anything, it means that we continue to honor rights that a series of Supreme Courts, even with different members, have continued to uphold.”
This might be the first time in history that an attorney general has publicly denounced the Supreme Court, which is entrusted with interpreting the Constitution.
Garland’s interpretation of the law shows why Mitch McConnell was right to keep him off the high court.
Abortion was never a right; it was a legal fiction concocted by seven justices.
And Democrats only care about precedent when it’s a decision that they agree with.
They would overturn D.C. v. Heller in a New York minute in order to restrict gun rights.
Garland also said he would aid states in administering medical abortion pills, writing, “States may not ban Mifepristone based on disagreement with the F.D.A.’s expert judgment about its safety and efficacy.”
The “defenders of democracy” are usurping the authority of the Supreme Court because a ruling did not go their way.
Garland’s defiance did not stop there.
The day prior, he spoke out against the Supreme Court’s decision regarding burdensome gun permit laws in New York State.
Garland wrote, “We respectfully disagree with the Court’s conclusion that the Second Amendment forbids New York’s reasonable requirement that individuals seeking to carry a concealed handgun must show that they need to do so for self-defense. The Department of Justice remains committed to saving innocent lives by enforcing and defending federal firearms laws, partnering with state, local and tribal authorities and using all legally available tools to tackle the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our communities.”
Garland seems to believe he’s the tenth justice with his DOJ edicts.
His job is to enforce the law, not interpret the law.
It’s the Democrats who are actively attempting to divide the country with actions like these.
