Meghan Markle hoped that big things were in store for her this year.
But she suffered another humiliating setback.
And Meghan Markle was reduced to tears after she got this brutal rejection.
Meghan Markle’s Netflix reality show shredded by critics
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2020 after they quit their position as senior members of the British royal family.
The Netflix deal is set to expire this year and the couple reportedly needs a hit to get an extension.
Meghan, a former D-list actress, has rebranded herself into a lifestyle guru in the mold of Martha Stewart.
Her new Netflix reality show With Love, Meghan features her and a rotating cast of celebrity pals cooking and gardening.
The eight-episode series was ripped by critics after it debuted on the streaming service.
Daily Mail columnist Amanda Platell called the show “so awful it is almost compelling.”
She argued that Harry is “desperate” for it to be a success so he and Meghan can maintain their “millionaire LA lifestyles.”
The show has been mocked on social media for being boring and a rehash of recipes that could be found on the internet.
Platell claimed that it had an unusual hope for success.
“Even if social media explodes with criticism of the show, it could be a win-win – it is so awful it is almost compelling and sources within Netflix hope it will prove irresistible to a ‘hate-watch’ audience of those who don’t like Meghan,” Platell said.
A common theme of the criticism for With Love, Meghan is how fake the show and Meghan seem.
Telegraph editor Anita Singh called the show “an exercise in narcissism, filled with extravagant brunches, celebrity pals and business plugs.”
Meghan is using the series to launch her new lifestyle brand of jams and dog biscuits called As Ever after she had to ditch the name American Riviera Orchard after trademark disputes.
Royal experts blast Meghan’s attempt to be a homemaker
To Di For Daily podcast host Kinsey Schofield argued that Meghan came across as fake in the series.
“This isn’t innovative, it’s backwards,” Schofield said about Meghan’s projects in the show. “The projects themselves aren’t original. It lacks authenticity. It’s aesthetically pleasing but not where the content world is at right now. It’s too controlled. Too glossy. Too produced.”
British broadcaster Helena Chard said that With Love, Meghan lacked sizzle.
“Meghan seems eager to play the altruistic, kind soul, but it is a tad smarmy,” Chard said. “My toes are curling… This is so cringey and not fun at all. It feels too staged, and the tips and tricks are far too basic… Meghan comes across as a modern Stepford Wife.”
The British press has savaged the series with negative reviews.
Meghan needed a big hit to promote her lifestyle brand and salvage her relationship with Netflix.
Based on the early reviews, things aren’t looking good.
“Kiss the Netflix deal goodbye!” The Guardian stated. “With Love, Meghan is so pointless it might be the Sussexes’ last TV show.”
