Mayor Pete has an infuriating message for rural Americans

The Biden administration is a total wreck, and the American people are suffering.

Joe Biden and his cabinet have no coherent vision for the future.

And now Pete Buttigieg has an infuriating message for rural Americans.

“Mayor Pete” Buttigieg has been an utter nonentity as Transportation Secretary.

He went on paternity leave for two months, and nobody noticed.

Now the same guy that couldn’t fix the potholes as Mayor of South Bend, Indiana is lecturing rural Americans that they should buy electric vehicles.

During an interview with MSNBC, Buttigieg said:

“The people who stand to benefit most from owning an EV are often rural residents, who have the longest distances to drive, they often burn the most gas . . . They would gain the most from having that vehicle, but these are the very residents who have not always been connected to electric vehicles that are viewed as kind of a luxury item.”

First, electric vehicles are viewed as luxury items because they’re expensive.

Most people can’t afford to “upgrade” to a $40,000 compact coupe or a Tesla.

Buttigieg also said rural residents drive the longest distances, but that would mean they would have to spend a lot of time charging their vehicles in areas where charging stations are not widespread.

There are other issues that come with electric vehicles.

Lithium batteries can spontaneously catch fire and torch the car and nearby buildings.

Also, mining for lithium is not eco-friendly.

It takes a considerable amount of fossil fuel usage to acquire the lithium that goes in the batteries.

Green technology is still not as efficient as fossil fuels, and in some ways it’s worse for the environment.

For example, wind turbines are highly inefficient and require significant land usage.

That means wildlife and plants must be cleared, and a considerable amount of fossil fuels are used in the endeavor.

And the birds killed by the turbines must also be factored into the equation.

At the end of the day, Buttigieg and the Biden administration are attempting to misdirect from their mishandling of the economy.

They don’t want Americans paying attention to rising gas prices, so they promote electric vehicles with government subsidies.

But subsidies in electric vehicles simply mean that economic resources can’t be deployed more efficiently.

Taxpayers are essentially subsidizing an industry that largely cannot compete without market intervention.
